Match Day Thread: Northampton 2nd Dec 2025 (EFL Trophy)

Hopefully not too long. Both have been given opportunities but have failed to deliver. Fink is absolutely no where near a League1 player. Problem is, it will not be easy to move him on.

loan him back to Dortmund???

I’m with @petef1 in thinking Fink needs regular game time, so needs loaning out to a L2 side in Jan. It may also be true of Van Saas.

Lowry has shown flashes of brilliance and skill but no real consistency, so needs to give his head a wobble, buckle down & listen to the coaching team, or he will likely be out the door in the summer.

Nope disagree with you there. Lowry played some excellent passes once he had players making intelligent runs. Still think there is a talent in there

Big question marks over Van Sas, Huggins, Boyd-Munce, Westergaard, Lowry, Tilley, Quitirna and Fink I’m afraid.

There is potential in most of them but they are not delivering.

I don’t think Huggins, Westergaard and Tilley have any kind of future at the club and expect them to leave in January. You can probably add Back and Skura to that list. And possibly McNeilly too.

I would hope Van Sas and Fink are being considered for loan spells.

I would keep Boyd-Munce, Lowry and Quitirna, all three of which have been frustrating. Boyd-Munce has not been helped by lack of a regular start and probably not helped by illness today but looked off the pace. Lowry shows flashes of brilliance but there is often a naivety in the final ball or shot and question marks over his defensive game. People say Quitirna looked good tonight. I’d disagree and say he looked a threat in flashes but again his decisions really do frustrate.

I’m happy with the way Duff has moulded a strong starting eleven but despite so many options there is a shortage of reserves he can trust. Scowen and Abbott’s returns will help in that regard but additional attacking options and a small number of departures essential for me.

This competition is the equivalent of loose stool water. It’s great to be out of it.

The F.A. Cup is a completely different story. We are going to be facing an Exeter City side who will be fighting for the very future existence of their club at the weekend.

After tonight Michael Duff will need to pick his strongest XI and hope they stand up to what is going to be a huge test of character.

For some perverse reason, I’m looking forward to Duffs post match interview

Agree, I thought Lowry was one of the few to come out with any credit tonight. Worked hard and probed for an opening all night, just didn’t quite happen for him.

Overall a fairly wretched performance, especially 1st half. I also worry about Fink and Westergaard. Agree with the general opinion that loans would probably do them good. Both show occasional flashes of having something about them, but neither look remotely like being able to perform on a regular basis and their game time here is now set to be very limited with the cup exit tonight.

Grok tells me Magnus has 3.5 years left on his contract, could be cobblers though. Expensive if true. Fink only signed for 1 year.

Surely even this big time version of Wycombe isn’t giving out 5 year deals?!

Wonder if Gaz fancies a job lot of loanees. Surely some of these fellas would boss league 2.

quite a few going off to our sister club after christmas

Gaz wouldn’t give game time to someone who lumbers around like a geriatric sloth.

Surely we didn’t pay big money to only sign Fink for 1 year?

Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers ?

I’d completely forgotten about Finn Back.

They should threaten a few with a loan to the Kazakhstani club, might sharpen a few minds. Apparently you have to slaughter a lamb on the pitch before your first game.

I didn’t watch. How was it? I assume Fink proved his case to dislodge Woodrow.

From what I have witnessed and highlighted tonight;-

van Sas, Fink, McNeilly, Westergaard, Huggins and Tilley all need to be moved on in January.

Free transfers, returns to mother clubs and loans but they need to go.

Also, young Gregory is not ready for first team duty just yet.

However we can look forward to Abbott, Scowen and Allen re-joining the first team squad in the new year.
