Ref has been out of his depth tonight. Lack of understanding of the game - guessing he has never played at any significant level
Agreed. If we were going to have an off game, today was the night to do it.
The players who arenāt regular starters have all shot themselves in the foot twice over tonight though, because they wonāt have any more EFL trophy games to show what they can do.
But it just means Duff can focus on the league, and a smaller core of players who seem up to a promotion battle.
utter embarrassing performance by everyone bar Junior
Wouldnāt single any players out for praise or critism.
If you pass like we did in the first half everyone is going to come off looking has bad as we did first half.
Second half? Was making dinner. But as Iām sure Duff has said, itās easy to play when youāre two nil down. Damage was done in the first half.
Disappointing to miss out on a good chance to play at Wembley.
Disappointing that none of our fringe players have taken the opportunity to force their way into MDās thinking.
Maybe it was just an off night, but itās a bit alarming how weak our squad is beyond the first choice players.
What a difference they made.
Unfortunately got about as much as we deserved tonight. Shame the fringe players didnāt give MD more to think about for the league campaign
Well Duff gave them a chance to stake a claim and Iād say 9 or 10 off them fluffed their chance.
Good for Duff to see what his second sting are like though I guessā¦.
some if not most of that team can go in January.
Agreed. Duff has alluded a couple of times about the size of the squad (being large). In his mind, to your point, Iām sure itās got easier in that department. The January window is going to be fascinating, as much for outgoing as incoming.
As a fan, I would agree.
As the manager, I think he is going to be raging for the rest of the week.
Itās the Vertu Trophy, no one cares
Tonight vindicates Duffās matchday selection choices. The only slightly worrying bit is that it could make our current starters lack effort because they know their place in the team isnāt at risk.
Sadly Iām no longer optimistic. Heās been disappointing.
Agreed, Iām certain Duff is pretty sure by now who has a future at the club. Itāll just be a case finding homes for those who donāt. The loanees can just go back, but some of the euro boys might be on decent wages.
Clearer than ever that our chances of league success this season depend on Fred, Luke and Jack staying fit and signing Bell and Woodrow beyond January.
Marginally better second half thanks to the subs, but none of tonightās starters other than Junior did anything to enhance their case for a starting berth in the league.
Totally hilarious that our deadline day panic signings of players out of favour at other clubs has proven to be better than the signings where we spent loads and loads of money at the beginning of the transfer window. Itās almost like Gareth Ainsworth had it right all along - the best value comes late in the window.
What length contract are Westergaad and Fink on ?
Iāve said this before, and I obviously donāt know the contractual terms, but Fink being loaned out to a L2 team might be the making of him. Same for Van Sas. We might even see the same for Tilley.
And Lowry, a total liability.
