No wins in five games why is dodds still here.
Well yes. The point is that we won’t hire a manager that plays that way. It’s clear the management team want a coachy manager who prioritises style over immediate results.
So we just lay down and die then. Nice.
I think it says a lot that we’re now into a situation, after spending more money in each of the last two transfer windows than we’ve spent in entire existence as a club, with just a signing or two we might avoid the drop or even get into lower midtable. I’d never have believed you in a million years if I’d been told this 12 months ago - or 12 years ago!
Elation. Despair and then a grim satisfaction. That’s football.
But this suggests that the “style” we’re seeing at the moment is a good one.
It doesn’t particularly feel it.
How many more times do you want to be told, The Academy is the absolute priority.
It is criminal that we made it to the championship with barely a paid for signing, yet now we’re lashing huge wads around we look way worse.
i’d usually do a smutty joke here but i’m tired.
Smutty, mutty whatever. We’re all up for it (in a manner of speaking).
Not sure where this idea is we are wedded to a set style of play, or what that actually is.
Playing it out from the back and passing the ball can be many different ways.
Its not just play like Dodds says. We aren’t going route 1, and that’s fine.
dodds postmatch interview
he’s proud of the players and ‘it’s coming’
What exactly is coming? Mid table mediocrity? We’ve spent over 10 million.
Well given we’re all now seeing how astute the signings of the two Danes turned out to be, it might be worth Dan Rice pitching again to the Danish coach who recommended them then rejected us in Jan?
After today’s performance - I do feel it’s more the players who were costing us at times especially with both goals rather than Dodds. But with that said I do genuinely see a good side in the making. I think Dodds needs to work out who should play where and we could have a very good lineup on our hands. I thought the subs played very well too - I’d expect all five to hopefully start on Tuesday.
Lowry is a liability defensively but I think that’s mainly because we are playing him out of position. He should be where Mullins is but with the latter in good form then that’s their place. What I would prefer to see once Fink is fit is Udoh out where Lowry is and Fink where Udoh is currently - we could cause some real trouble for defenders moving forward. I thought Van Sas, Hagelskjaer, Harvie, Mullins and Udoh had good games as well today.
Let’s hope we get a result in the cup on Tuesday and we continue it against Stevenage on Saturday.
I am really struggling to make any sense of what happened today.
As of now (sat in a pub an hour after the game ended) I actually feel that I enjoyed it overall.
For large parts of it both we and Reading were pretty awful but that had the overall advantage of balancing things out and a draw felt the right result.
Talking about who played well with friends, both Anders and Taylor (and Grimmer) got honourable mentions but somehow, regardless of that, defensively we just look appalling at the moment.
Apart from those (and honourable mentions to Henderson and Westergaard) though it’s hard to think of anyone who had a decent game.
Still too early in my opinion to jettison MD (Barnsley at home is my prediction as his last game) but there was NOTHING I saw out there that gave me encouragement that he might after all know what he is doing.
But weirdly nothing I saw out there dissuades me from wanting to go to Stevenage next week.
It’s just a succession of buzz words interspersed with “the group”.
At this moment in time I will settle for mid-table mediocrity.
However, there were good signs again today with Henderson looking a real class act and Anders doing well again.
vanSas worries me though and so does playing Leahy in that No.6 role.
Fred needs to be left on the bench for the next one and give either Tilley or Junior a start.
I’ll continue to be outraged with anything below 10th.
Hang on, signing 2 high priced players in January, neither of which got near the pitch for 6months and now 1 is at least starting in a misfiring team and the other comes in for half a game then misses 2, is somehow “astute”?
