But from the replay - even though the still doesn’t really look any different - I believe it’s a decent chance.
Bear in mind I never said it was “no more than a half chance.” There’s a spectrum here so it’s not clear cut chance vs half chance.
I think it’s a reasonable chance. Definitely agree it’s better than a half chance, but absolutely miles away from being a clear cut chance like Kone’s header from 4 yards in the centre of the goal against Shrewsbury.
As I’ve said if the keeper lets that in it goes down as “he should really have done better there,” rather than “there’s nothing he could have done.” It’s at a great height, doesn’t have to move across his line and he’s got a standing start, it’s not like he’s had to change direction suddenly or anything.
It’s a relatively routine save for a competent League One shot stopper.
I’m not anti Bloomfield i’ve heard both sides of the situation, I wish he was still here but there is always other information that people choose not to disclose for one reason or another at the time. The reason I brought it up was someone mentioned Bloomfield might come back I was just making it clear that this won’t happen.
How many clubs in the football league would have appointed Dodds? This is on Rice. Appointing someone in their first job with loads of new players and the pressure of promotion was never going to end well. A safe pair of hands until the end of season was the obvious way to go and then re-evaluate in the summer. My concern is the amount of influence Rice has but looks likes he’s learning on the job too and has got a lot of the big calls wrong.
As I understand it the plan initially was that Rob Couhig would stay on for a period of time as the chairman. He then left and Rice has been in this interim chairman position for about 9 months now.
It would have been interesting to see how the Bloomfield situation would have developed with RC still at the club.
Clearly DR is learning on the job and it’s a huge role in what is clearly a very big project.
The Peter principle is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter which observes that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to “a level of respective incompetence”: employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another.[1][2]
An owner who has never owned a club before. A CEO who has never been a CEO before and a Head Coach who has always been a coach. It’s a miracle we’re still third!
I appreciate this, and my comments are not against you in any way. It just seems very convenient (for Dan Rice) that “other sources” are now piping up as it becomes increasingly apparent that his actions and attitude are likely to cost us promotion.
We had weeks of debate, not just here but on FB, and every “source” during that debate was in agreement. Opponents were more of the “we can never know” variety. I have personally compared three different, unconnected sources that are all impeccable and were all in complete agreement.
I just find it hard to believe that none of these new contrary ITKs said anything in the midst of the debate but now show up months later when we are finally on the doorstep of completely coughing up the autos and more fans are (rightly) rounding on the establishment for their smorgasbord of poor decisions.
To be clear, I am sure Bloomfield DID want to leave by the time he finally did, but more because everything had been set on fire around him so that Rice & co could say “Look! He does not want to work with us!” as Blooms flees the burning building.
Whilst it’s fascinating to read comments from people 100% ITK cancelling each other out the sad fact is next Tuesday is more DoddsBall and that’s that.
I’d like to add I missed that part of what @holmerblue said. I hope the debate doesn’t chase him away, though to be fair this season has been one spectacular downer since January, and it feels like everyone is less enthusiastic in general (with apologies to the immensely positive folks printing up t-shirts with Dodds’ face on them as we speak).
who would the “safe pair of hands” appont been ? we were turned down by 2 or 3 options so Dodds was appointed , i would have loved Schumacher but he went to Bolton so was never going to happen. we have some real entitled fans, get behind the team and lets see what we can do for the resr of the season
Given the nature of lots of moving parts it needed someone with experience. This is a tough set of circumstances for someones first job. This isn’t entitlement, I think it’s quite clear given the circumstances it was always going to be incredibly challenging for Dodds.
Personally a Mark Warburton type of appointment is the route I would have liked to have seen us take but fully appreciate that a lot of factors come in to play. We were in such a good position, one that doesn’t come around often and feel it wasn’t the right appointment which goes back to the original point about Dan Rice
