Couldn’t have said it better myself. Lowe made himself a proper nuisance. An old fashioned number 9. THAT is how you handle defenders. Even if you have no intention of winning the ball, you let them know that it is not going to be easy. Fink has yet to head the ball for us, let alone rough up a defender. Lowe had them crapping themselves. What a debut. 20 mins, assist, goal and MOM.
Regarding Harvie - I think we take him for granted in general. He is the best left back in this league and if he is not in the team, we cannot replace him like for like. You could give him MOM every week but we kind of expect him to play well. Arguably player of the season so far for consistency alone.
Yes, agree with this. I wasn’t at all sure about the line up, but fair to say that Duff got it spot on. We were well on top for much of the 1st half and when inevitably Stevenage came back at us 2nd half, he made the changes at just the right time to swing the game back in our favour. We were impressive individually and tactically today.
Not sure your point. But in half an hour, Lowe has proved he is 100 times the centre forward Woodrow is as I suspected would be the case. Lowe did something a Wycombe striker has not done for some time, bully a defence. He is a focal point, has pace and a real eye for goal. He’s the kind of player that wins promotions for teams.
Im hoping for fist bumps over bone picking at Barnsley Bolton and Cardiff and Lowe not low. This division is mad so if Plymouth can put 5 past Cardiff and we have a Reading not Exeter performance who knows?
When I look at the match day squad today I feel we have got five players who are top class League one and represent the level of player we need to get into the Championship.
Those five are:- Harvie, Henderson, Fred, Morley and Boyd Munce. We need to add further players of that quality in the summer and maybe Lowe and Bell could be another two, who knows.
I think the future looks good and we could be a major power next season.
I have to agree. No-one on the bench seemed overly concerned about the third or fourth injury to our No 1…no-one was even looking in his direction (busy pointing and instructing the players who seemed equally uninterested in Norris’s wellbeing) and no-one telling Van Sas to warm up. So possibly not all Norris’s fault but it truly gets my goat and the goats of all of the people around me. Then again the ages it seemed every goal kick took was getting on my nerves as well. Great result though.
All true. And if football wasnt à team game à direct comparison might be more valid but even then it’s a comparison between roles of 9 & 10 and they rely on team mates performing well in changing match situations. Good signs yes but tempered by we are generally good at home but a bit predictable and one dimensional away from AP (Reading aside). If Lowe can score the goals so we don’t resort to absorbing pressure for a whole half then great but he’ll still be up top on his own asking ‘how do we win the next half?’. Today was largely good but our weaknesses remain. We saw a goal and a dodgy tackle from Lowe so àMessiah or a very naughty boy? The right mix of both with any luck and a quality midfield to be in the box and closer more often.
I wouldn’t say Anders and Casey is a great partnership (yet). It’s an ok partnership. It’s a couple of levels down on Low and Taylor last season which is where it needs to be for a promotion push. Personally think Wyc will go out and get a centre back in the summer.
They are three alternatives in my opinion. One he was genuinely injured two he was faking injury of his own bat in which case I would expect the manager to discipline him or at least have a word
Three he was doing it on the managers instructions.
The time added on would be added on whether he was genuinely injured or not.
Harris didn’t offer too much to threaten I’d agree, but his ball retention and decision making was good. When we kept the ball he was often heavily involved. Woodrow isn’t typically a play off the shoulder type striker (despite today’s goal) and his strengths are coming deep into the midfield and progressing play into the final third which reminds me of how Steve McGavin played for us, maybe even Paul Emblen when he played higher up the pitch.
Finding a way to link Woodrow to Lowe in the lineup is important moving forward.
May be in the minority but don’t particularly get the Bell hype. Fair enough he scored some goals but thought he was pretty anonymous in his last few games
