For me they aren’t a great partnership but they are a decent enough League One pairing. Casey has become one of my favourite players. I expect it will be an area of investment in the summer if we are looking to challenge at the top.
I posed a question using AI about how many points are likely to be needed this season, to get into the top 6. These were the answers:
2025–26 Play-off Race Projections
Supercomputer models and current form suggest that the 6th-place threshold will align closely with the long-term historical average.
-
Projected 6th Place Total: 71 points is the currently favored projection for the final play-off spot.
-
Historical Average: Over the last 10 full seasons, the average points for a 6th-place finish in League One is 74.8 points.
-
Current Baseline: As of late February, Huddersfield Town occupies the final play-off spot with 52 points from 34 games, putting them on a trajectory for roughly 70–72 points.
We currently have 47 points, with 13 games to go, so a maximum of 86 points available. But we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, and all the focus now must be on taking another 3 from the Burton game next Saturday.
Needs to be said, that although Grimmer can be frustrating in possession, he is an absolute war horse. Properly battered around yesterday, and ran himself into the ground
We do seem a bit harsh on our defence.
A very brief scan only results since 20th September, has us conceding 25 goals, in 25 games. Comparing to the top 2. Lincoln 22 in same period, and Cardiff over 30.
We’ve conceded 9 in 10 since January.
The defence has been pretty strong.
I agree. From what I see week in week out Anders is tailor-made for the level above, and Casey is proving himself to be an excellent central defensive partner
Because of the games we’ve got left and the Jekyll and Hyde home and away performances this season, I’m not confident we’ll get into the top 6. However what I am encouraged by is how this squad is taking shape and how little transfer business we might have to do in the summer to get us in a shape to compete at the top end of the table next season.
If we can either continue or convert some of our current loan players: Huggins, Woodrow, Lowe; see if we can bring Bell back in and sort out our GK situation (it may be that we’ve seen enough of George up north to offer him a deal to stick around as our #1 next season), we’ll be there or thereabouts with the squad (assuming none of our current starters’ contracts are expiring).
It will possibly feel more like January’s window where we will be trying to offload the players we currently have out on loan plus a couple of others (Lowry for example).
My major concern is holding onto Duff if Burnley get relegated and get rid of Parker, but let’s cross that bridge if it ever arrives!
I have no proof but I would say the defence have been well protected by the midfield.
We are coming in to our toughest run of away games in March and April with the following top 6 to play away.
Bolton - March 7th
Cardiff - March 17th
Stockport - April 3rd
Huddersfield - April 11th
Lincoln - April 25th
We have the squad to test these teams who will also be desperate to get in the autos or playoffs.
Should be a cracking run in if we improve our away form.
I’d say there isn’t a single chance that George returns at No. 1.
Of those five teams, we took 10 points from them, only losing to Stockport (1-2) and drawing with Cardiff.
Whilst the away form is a cause for concern, these are easy games for the team to ‘get up’ for.
And let’s turn this around, I doubt the likes of Huddersfield with their current form or even Bolton are particularly looking forward to playing us as well.
Should be a thrilling end of the season.
Off the top of my head I’d say 71 would be about right too. Which is 7 wins and 3 draws from 13 games. Damn my hopes are up again!
Its Typical Goalkeeper Shithousery. Lots of our keepers did that, so why are you complaining now, specifically at Will Norris.
We have a midfield that is generally keeping possession which obviously helps, but thats also why we have the CBs we have, as both are comfortable on the ball and able to play it out, with Norris sweeping as well ( still scares me).
Not had an old school defensive midfielder all seadon though, and still keeping it tight.
We are capable in the coming big games though, but we aren’t far off being a very good team.
Bizarre levels of personal criticism for Norris. I don’t particularly rate him as a keeper, but is there really any need to extrapolate that to him being a bad person?
- That’s sort of the midfield’s job
- Doesn’t mean the defence isn’t good
If ever there’s an opposition team that you get a free shithousery pass for when playing them, it’s Stevenage.
Because he’ll be back in the squad again if Woodrow picks up and injury or if Lowe breaks down or has a knock back during his recovery.
It maybe unrelated but I certainly heard some complaints about Norris as soon as he arrived because he wasn’t that smiley or acknowledge the terrace that much during/after a game. I think there’s an undercurrent of people’s noses being out of joint when compared to other more charismatic GK’s such as Stockdale.
What he is doing is bollocks and it needs to be stamped out, across the game. But he isn’t doing anything any other keeper does.
No just the gasroom is a really negative bunch - opposition rubbish if we win, our defence awful if we concede a goal or dare to lose. Why let facts like goals conceded per game get in the way of opinion
Reading and Luton seem to be imploding at just the right time.
Plymouth worry me now more than the above two or Huddersfield and Stevenage. They are hitting form at just the right time.
But Fink isn’t the only option in that position (and currently wouldn’t be a very good option either) - meanwhile HE badly needs to be playing in order to recover his mojo.
We have other options, who could be played through the middle in the worst case - Fred or McCallum.
Before Lowe arrived who was our third option then? And we had cup competitions to play then too which we no longer have.
I agree keeping Fink just to then not play him is a strange decision, and don’t see any benefit for either him or WWFC.
