Today’s match will be a sterner test than the previous two. The two sides met on the last day of last season at Marsh Lane, with Kayla Potter scoring a late equaliser in a 3-3 draw, to secure second place in the table. The Chairgirls beat them 4-1 at Burnham in the reverse fixture, Kayla scored a brace in both of those games. Their main goal threat will be Ellie White, who scored all four goals against the Chairgirls last season. She has two so far this season but Yasmin Edwards, with three already, will presumably be absent after getting a straight red last week.

The Delves sisters are unavailable today, so Robyn Cullen is in goal. Jordanne Hoesli-Atkins is injured. Danielle Puddefoot is long term injured.

2’, WW 1-0 OC, Watkins cross for Potter to slot home.

HT WW 1-0 OC.

A bit of a midfield battle, neither team in their stride yet. Most of the play is in the City half, the Chairgirls are getting into the box but City are defending well and their keeper has not really been tested again. Cullen has had one save to make, a shot well smothered.

75’ 2-0, Chloe Melton 20 yard shot high over the keeper.

Beaver had a header well saved but the Hoops haveupped their game this half and have been the dominant team. Cullen has made a couple of good saves.

80’ 3-0, a 40 yard Bobby Lynch free kick appeared to go straight in, bouncing over the keeper.

Edit - third goal credited to Cat Beaver, nodding over the keeper.

FT WW 3-0 OC. That was a real battle in the driving rain but an excellent result against a very good team, considering key players were missing. Full marks to Robyn Cullen for her clean sheet, she was beaming after the game finished. My POTM is Cat Beaver, dominant in the heart of the defence, and a cheeky opportunistic goal.

Great result. Looks like determination and desire to win in tough conditions and good coaching.

Maybe some other coaches in the WWFC set-up could spend a Sunday watching how the women get it done?

Glad the second came when it did, as Oxford looked like they could get something from the game. Cracking start to the season so far.

The other results today, with a fantastic and unexpected win for Beaconsfield at Portchester, coming from behind. The Rams new goalkeeper Sophie Cheadle, a former Chairgirl, went off injured, replaced by another former Chairgirl, Ash Harte. That result really helps the Chairgirls as Portchy are probably the nearest challengers. The Fleet win was also unexpected, after their mauling last week.

Oxford City goals.
