- SRWFL Cup Final
- Sunday 26th April
- 15:00 kick off
- The Rivermoor Stadium, Scours Ln, Tilehurst, Reading RG30 6AY
- Watch live on GasroomTV
The Charigirls have a chance to win their first competition since winning the Thames Valley Counties Plate in 2014. They have had a couple of promotions since then, but not as champions. They did reach the Southern Region Chairman’s Cup Final in 2020 but it was never played because of lockdown. Portchester have beaten Badshot Lea, Southampton Women, Farnham and Reading to reach the final.
If you have watched Jess Watkins’ deepfelt feelings about the defeat last Sunday (https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXZjkPpCM-J/?igsh=c2l0MDIyemZ5dXZs), you will know just how hurt she, and I expect her teammates, are. I am confident we will see a different game tomorrow.
The ground is adjacent to the River Thames in Tilehurst, it does flood in really wet winters. Their men’s team played on it today and, from photos, the grass pitch looks to be in good condition.
Adults ÂŁ5, Seniors and Children ÂŁ3, cash or card on the gate. I will be there tomorrow with other supporters. Portchester have posted a preview.
Edit - I forgot to add our preview.
No sign of the team sheet as yet. Another bone hard pitch but well grassed.
The match stream is now live here
Hopefully we wont get that same guy close to the microphone shouting “Come on Portchy” every couple of minutes!
12’ first chance of match, Portchy striker few yards out shoots straight into arms of Redbourne.
Sadly he’s there again and very audible!
27’ good run and shot by Hoesli-Atkins comfortably saved.
27’ great block by Lynch to stop a certain goal.
32’ overhead lob by Kassem bounces on crossbar and is cleared.
38’ good chance for Portchy, shoots just over.
42’ Portchy far post header just goes wide.
HT 0-0, so far so good but Portchester have had the the better chances, we haven’t created much so far. As last week, a difficult pitch, not one for passing your way forward.
49’ tame shot doesn’t trouble Redbourne.
55’ Wardlaw replaces Kassem.
60’ long range shot from the wing comfortably saved by Redbourne.
Pitch is dreadful, lot of hoof ball as a result which appears to be doing neither team any favours
78 Mulvaney on for Ashby.
FT 0-0, lino missed a corner for us at the end. So to penalties.
