The Watford first team won promotion to WSL2 last Sunday, tonight we are expecting to see the Watford Development side who play at tier 5 in the Eastern Region Premier. Kings Langley is their home ground. They were promoted in 2024, finished tenth out of twelve last season, two points clear of relegation. This season they are are also currently tenth but nine points clear of relegation. This is the same division as Bowers & Pitsea, our Isthmian Cup victors, and they beat Watford 7-0 at home in February, with the reverse fixture still to come. Haringey Borough are also in this division and they defeated Watford 5-0 and drew 2-2.
Like ourselves, Watford have only played one game so far in this cup, a rather good 4-2 win at tier 4 London Bees, after a walkover win against Camden Town in the previous round. This Development side enter the FA Cup, losing 2-1 to Dunstable Town this season. The Devs reached the final of the CCL cup last season, losing 5-1 to Chatham Town at the Watford training ground at London Colney.
They have used 55 players this season, 11 have made at least 10 appearances, just two have made more than 20. Only one player has appeared for both the first team and the development side, Liana Sideras. The goals are spread around, Rebecca Lovelace leads with 7 from 21, followed by Jada Deane, 6 from 10, and Olivia Oshodi, 5 from 10.
This will be the first time that Head Coach Carl Simon will face his old club. He joined W3 from Watford in 2022, after managing the First, Reserve and U18 sides there.
The story of the cup so far, tier in brackets. Maidenhead beat Reading last night, to be the first team into the semi-finals. There is one outstanding 3R game, to be played next week.
