Would Michael Duff had gone back to Cheltenham if we hadn’t obtained him two days earlier?
Simply because I think it sent out the wrong message. He was their boss, not their mate.
I agree with this. Did find it slightly odd, the hugging.
A hug would be appropriate for Ainsworth reconnecting with Josh Scowen after 6+ years. Not for Mike Dodds to a bunch of strangers. Immediately set off an accurate first impression that he’s a bit of a pushover.
What I find strange in the sacking of Dodds and the appointment of Duff , no comment ( unless I’ve missed it) from our glorious leader in this country, Rice. Too egotistical to admit Dodds was a poor decision. Like the look of Duff.
I’m curious why you’re curating such a list. Did you do lists for previous managers? I imagine it was quite a lengthy one for Tony Adams.
I would not have thought so.It would look like a bit of a regression on his CV to return to the bottom of league 2.
Despite the bad rep our owners get Internally I would have thought the prospect of joining us is quite a desirable one.
Even if we hadn’t sacked Dodds I would have thought Duff would have waited for something better than going back there.
I just don’t recall such a spurious set of reasons to dislike a manager before
It’s not to be taken too seriously
Hugging someone makes you a pushover… you learn something every day on the gasroom!
Hugging someone you’ve never met is a bit iffy.
i suspect quite a few people on here hug trees
In fairness, most of us don’t do much hugging, high fiving, getting in little huddles etc when at work. In football it’s part of the drill.
It’s probably best to leave the Doddsy examination at his football shortcomings though.
I’ve watched Duff’s 1st interview and his interview after the Northampton win a couple of times now.
I think we really might have got the right one through the door this time.
I like what his said, his manner and his demeanor. Everything he said made sense to me and he has certainly settled my nerves.
Dodds talking utter nonsense…. Being angery when we won and indifferent when we lost…. Having no plan B and tbh a pretty iffy plan A…. Looking increasingly like he is one step away from a nervous breakdown….
Yes…. Onwards and upwards. COYB!!
Absolutely agree. I really did fear for Dodds; that Basil Fawltyesque crouch with his head in his hands was awful to watch.
Saturday felt, for almost the first time since Dodds arrival, like watching a game of football rather than an exercise at the training ground.
He also didn’t have a rucksack with “Boss” on the back of it. How would we know he wasn’t a mere iPad supervisor?
The “angry when we won” observation definitely reminds me of what I thought after the Mansfield game. He seemed bemused that something other than his meticulously compiled plan A could possibly work.
Mike Duff also got the players playing intense pressing and fast attacking football after a 40 minute training session, something that Dodds couldn’t do after a pre season and was still saying it would take time. But what do you expect from someone who thinks that controlling the game is passing around in your own half when you are 2-0 down. I really think that Mike Duff is the right man for our club. For the first time since January I am feeling excited about the future and looking forward to watching us play.
Exactly this.
For the first time in a long time, Saturday felt like I was watching a Wycombe Wanderers team.
Wasn’t going to go to the Wimbledon game but after a brilliant 90 at AP on Saturday under Mr Duff, will be making my first trip to Plough Lane.
Will be interested in the team he picks for tomorrow; a win takes us to the ‘business end’ of the tournament so this is all very exciting.
