Michael Duff

I for one am delighted we have signed a head coach who actually has experience, this is what the club needed. Someone who has experienced the highs and lows of football management but not too many of the lows.

I know, I was pulling his leg as he’s very vocal on his feelings on Luke

the amount of shit that gets posted on here as though it’s fact is truly astonishing

I’m also looking forward to more coherent post match interviews with minimal fidgeting and face touching throughout

I have a really good feeling about Duff. He’s already proven he’s a very capable L1 manager, has managed at an even higher level, understands this league as a player, and seems willing to mix it up tactically but preferring a formation that the players are suited to.

If you look at the list of out of work championship and league one managers, I don’t think there was a significantly better appointment out there.

Has hoards of experience in Lge1 and Lge2, plus some in the Championship.

Should get us playing a more relevant style for Lge1 and hopefully isn’t told from above to continue the tippy tappy possession crap we have had to endure for months.

Best of luck Duff, we are all behind you.

What’s the over/under on mentions of The Project in Duff’s first interview?

At least he wins games at this level. The next few games will determine whether the players are crap or whether Dodds really was incompetent.

Anodyne soundbites are par for the course but I hope Duff ditches some of the piffle.

“The Group” → “The lads”

“The Project → “Our goals/aims”

“Cataclysmic” → “Competent”. Or better yet, we never have to resort to describing any aspect of our play as being remotely “cataclysmic”.

Yes, it’s a simple game really, you just have to set your team up to out score the opposition.

While this appointment represents something of a gear change, it does look very sensible. On paper at least! Dare I say I’m excited for the visit of the Shoe Goons and the weeks ahead. It’ll be very interesting to see what opinions the New MD forms of the 30-odd players he has to work with.

I’m giving him 10 games

It will be interesting to see if he can fashion a team to play in his style from our squad of what was delightfully termed “lightweight jinky boys” earlier.

He’s tended to stick pretty rigidly to 3-5-2 in his other roles (unless up against it, like in his time at Swansea), including three proper midfielders rather than any jinky boys - which is why his teams have sometimes been seen as a bit dull.

So not enormously great news for the likes of Fred, Junior, Lowry, Henderson, Westergaard, Tilley and Bell, who might find they need to offer something as wing-backs, strikers or midfielders instead.

Blocked him ages ago…but I notice he still gets lots of attention for his endless repetition ….so he’s the winner.

Get a life!

It’ll be really interesting to see what teams he puts out this Sat and Tuesday and if he keeps the faith with any of Dodds’ signings. Will he stick with van Sas in goal? Does Grimmer now have to fight for his place? Who’s going to be in our midfield? There will be some interesting selections decisions that need to be made and it might worry one or two players…..

If he goes back 3, Grimmer is likely a shoe in at right sided CB.

Grimmer and Leahy both started our only win against Mansfield that Duff, it appears, witnessed. He could change goalies and start a load of players he hasn’t seen play yet but I suspect he might not fiddle about too much in his first game.

Maybe make 11 changes for the game at Wigan? Give everyone a chance / 1 shot audition before really starting to work on his style & tactics from Wednesday?

Do we know if Duff has brought anyone in with him for his backroom staff?
