This has been on another thread, but rather than derail that I think it’s fascinating that the Sunderland fans have exactly the same gripes as those of us that are not enthused by him:
Boring, ineffective football and a focus on stats as an end in themselves ahead of chasing the outcome that the stats are supposed to measure.
Sunderland Forum Thread is here:
The interview is here.
The thing that’s most interesting is them piling in on Luke O’Nien for covering for what they see as Dodds’ bullshit and poor tactics when, who was the person most effusive about Dodds arriving a Wycombe? Luke O’Nien…
Fascinating to see that history, while not necessarily repeating is definitely rhyming.
Perhaps no one’s told him that the idea of football is to score more goals in the opposition not to hang onto the ball longer than the opposition in your own half.
Maybe in his youth someone lead him a stray on the subject
It’s definitely borderline cult, it’s his thing to be done in his way that nobody else really understands and hasn’t in any way been proven but you’re either all in or you’re not a proper fan.
Alan Sm*th was nearly a cult. Only one letter away.
“Absolutely absolving any blame from himself and putting it on the players within 30 seconds. Take some responsibility man you coward. You set us up that way”
That was what I thought. It’s like, they warned us what it would be like and Mike has been 100% the same person we were warned about with the same awful football and refusal to learn from his mistakes. It’s uncanny.
Well, this is exactly the point; two sets of fans, hundreds of miles apart, but a common experience and feeling about the Dodds system. Read it and it’s exactly the same discussions happening here.
That may be your idea, but it might not be everyone’s. It could be argued that reacting against an incompetent management team might bring about change that makes the club stronger.
Fair take on it. But I am willing to give it a bit longer to see if the longer term project starts to work. It is unfair to take on a project and not be given the time to make it work.
Bearing in mind all the playing resorces he has, I personally think 6 months is long enough to start getting results from those resources. If the England team had the run of dismal results that Dodds has presided over, the manager would no longer be in post.
