Quite funny, but inaccurate, Guinness is brewed in the UK.

I think their London brewery closed years ago. Guinness in the UK is brewed in Dublin now.
Guiness is brewed in about 50 countries including Nigeria and the Cameroon.

Many years ago, in the alleyway between the Swan theatre and Greggs in the High Street I made the acquaintance of a fellow called Ed who’d fallen on hard times and spent hours daily sitting there come rain or shine. When I first met him I decided to ask him if he’d like a coffee rather than offer cash which I thought was unlikely to be spent on coffee. His reply took me by surprise. I’ve never been a serious coffee drinker, sticking rigidly to Cappuccino, even when on holiday in Italy. Call me a snob but when Ed replied “I’ll have a Latte please”, I was somewhat taken aback. At the time, I’d never heard of it.
I used to walk through that alleyway on a regular basis and got to know Ed quite well. On one occasion he told me that Ann Widdecombe (who had been appearing in pantomime at the Swan, I think) gave him a generous amount of cash.
mrs micra just reminded me of a story she’d heard some time ago about one of the daughters of a fish and chip shop owning family near where Ann Widdecombe lived who wanted to study to become a doctor. The family couldn’t afford it but apparently Ann paid for the full cost of her studies and she duly achieved her ambition.
Say what you like about her politics but she was clearly a very generous individual.

That’s really helpful thanks. Easy to forget that people are often so much more than the one-dimensional mask they choose (or sometimes not choose) to present to others

I shall neither celebrate or mourn her death.
While the anecdotal stories above are nice and do show she did some nice things, She had also voice some absolutely abhorrent views that harmed many.
Not that that would be any justification of murder, but I’m not going to go all gooey hearted over her off of the back of a few nice stories .
