I recall when she converted from Protestant to RC (because women should never be allowed to preach the gospel apparently) Frank Skinner saying he hoped all the defectors were joining because they recognised the true faith rather than just because they thought it was as intolerant and nasty as they were.
Very sad business attacking an.old lady in her home but it sounds like they had a pretty good idea who’d done it straightaway.
“The anecdotal stories above” were simply memories I had of isolated references by third parties to generous deeds committed by a politician about whom I otherwise knew nothing other than the fact that Anton Du Beke once used her as a floor mop on Strictly Come Dancing and that she defected a couple of years ago from the Conservative Party to join Reform UK in some kind of advisory capacity.
Your implication that my words are a manifestation of what you describe as “gooey-heartedness” is absurd and couldn’t be further from the truth.
The truth is that most people will be supremely indifferent to your assertion that you will neither mourn nor celebrate her death.
You’re reading more into words. It wasn’t specifically about what you said - although it was an example of it - I was thinking more in general that after person dies people start focusing on the few good things they did, when sometimes they have just been pure evil.
And, I’m afraid, some of the views she shared bordered on just that and I don’t think it’s right to forget the affect she had on people.

This is part of the problem with politics these days. People disagree with someone’s views and suddenly they’re “pure evil”. You can think she was wrong without massively exaggerating who she was.

Peter Tatchell did what so many of the ‘be kind’ brigade did and celebrated her death on twitter. When he discovered that she had been murdered and that his career was also heading to the grave he suddenly slammed on the brakes and pretended to be human for a bit. Too late, Peter.

I never liked her as a politician, she represented everything I abhor about the libertarian Christian right; far to often her choice of words was intemperate and unnecessarily objectionable.
Having said that, I wished her no ill and am appalled that she has been murdered.
I try to navigate through life by the motto that An injury to one is an injury to all as I believe it is only through community & collectivism that we improve the lot of humanity.

I neither knew her nor have any anecdotes to share, also I can’t say I’m really aware of her beliefs/politics.
However, to consider someone “pure evil” without ever having met them when many who have - irrespective of their own beliefs/politics - describe her as thoroughly likeable seems harsh.
Feel free to consider my view with supreme indifference.
Edit: It appears that the suspect the police arrested has been released without charge.
What a horrible thing to say about a person that has been brutally murdered.
Arresting the Amazon delivery guy because he was white and on CCTV hasn’t worked out for them. If they can’t find any other footage we might have another Jill Dando on our hands.
She said a lot worse things, and they haven’t stopped having affect on the people she said it about just because she was murdered.
Should she be murdered? Absolutely not.
Should the perpetrator(s) be punished to the full extent of the law? Absolutely.
Should we forget that what she said harmed many people? Absolutely not.
People are defending what she said as a bastion of free speech. Well that also allows me to point out she had said things that were abhorrent and that doesn’t just go away.
I don’t think she was pure evil. And perhaps it was worded incorrectly. What I said was some of the things she said were pure evil.
Like timing her comments to say Science can cure being gay, in the middle of Pride month, I see as being nothing but an evil thing to say about and to people.

100%. And I am sure that some of the views that I have about homosexuals, religion and other things she would have found abhorrent.
Christ, I hope they don’t find a cure. It’s hard enough getting pussy as it is without a load of handsome, well groomed and physically fit young men hitting the market all at once.

I’d say it was inappropriate rather than evil.
If she was throwing gay people off buildings, that would be evil.
It was the timing of it that tips it over into the evil bracket.
Pride month is a period where gay and lesbian people can celebrate who they are without fear of persecution and to highlight that it wasn’t that long ago people were jailed, chemically castrated or hounded to death , in the case of Alan Turing all three - just because of their sexuality.
So to be saying those things during that period, for me, puts it on par with actually throwing people off of buildings.
A bit like Peter Tatchela comments. While what he said may not have been explicitly evil in itself, the tone and the timing of it does tip it towards being a bit evil.
If it turns out she was murdered because of those views, would you still say her religious beliefs put her on the same level as someone who actually kills gay people?
Sometimes the people loudly expressing views that help people become radicalised are just as bad as those carrying out atrocious acts.
Bin laden radicalised enough people without killing them himself.
I personally think anyone anti gay is an extremist.
