This version of Labour is the most disgusting party this country has ever had and when you look at their bland midwit faces you realise that ‘the banality of evil’ is back..

It’s the same old ignorant tropes about the other that have been spread through the ages. Read about the things that were said about Chinese immigrants at the turn of the century. Read about Clifford’s Tower. Read To Kill a Mockingbird. This is why we should study history.

The othering was in choosing to turn a blind eye to the crimes of one group, when other groups would have received the full force of the law in double quick time.
In any case, othering is a feature of the multiculturalism you love - by definition.

My parting shot to this thread is -
A few years ago I had very interesting conversations with both a Moroccan Imam & not long after with one from Bosnia, they broadly said the same.
a) Islam is no more a mono-culture than Christianity or Judaism or any other significant religion
b) As Islam moved out of the middle East it met many different cultures & traditions, it was often layered on top of those cultures etc. as people converted, all the imams tried to do was eliminate the worst behaviours.
c) They both pointed out that men from the Indian subcontinent have always treated their women folk & especially women who are not of their tribe like shit, sadly Islam did little to moderate this.
From personal experience there is a world of difference between muslims from the western Arab states/Balkans/west of Turkey & those from the “stans”; also there is a world of difference between well educated second/third generation British muslims & their parents or even more so their relations who are still living back in the “stans”. We do ourselves a huge disservice by painting all adherents of Islam with a singular brush, they share the complexities of all humanity from the virtuous few, through the decent majority to the bad uns who in some cases are prepared to do unspeakable things to their fellow humans.
