I’m not saying you did say that.
But I’m struggling to understand your viewpoint

This is where the anti immigrant anti Muslim sentiment leads. People deciding they want to kill large numbers of Muslims just because they are muslim.
When I said, sometimes the people spouting the hate are as bad as those that want to kill. This is the situation.
These people have been turned into extremists ( i know people hate that word). No different to when Islamic extremists attack people.
Like many things, those that are seemingly opposite are incredibly similar.
Yes you’re right, Pakistani Muslims that think you can marry children and women that wear revealing clothing deserve to be raped, are just as likely to be in a grooming gang as anyone else and there’s no evidence to support otherwise. We can all sleep at night now knowing we’re not Islamophobic, that’s the important thing.
Well, we’re clearly not all not Islamophobic.
It’s not so much my opinion, as my observation of the unfolding picture. Over several decades, men who were almost entirely Muslims from the Mirpur region of Pakistan, conducted systematic abuse of girls who were (and this is important) outside their religion and culture. Their ethnic, religious and tribal customs allowed them to stoop to a level of depravity hitherto unusual in Britain; save for isolated cases that when discovered resulted in national revulsion. Not only was the type of abuse unusually savage, but the scale of the abuse was on an industrial scale: 250k girls being a widely published estimate. Nobody disputes that other groups molest children or that there have not been, and likely still are, similar gangs involving white men. The key difference though, is that when perpetrators of child abuse have been discovered in other communities, retribution from both the law and from their communities has been swift and tough. In the case of the Mirpur gangs, however, political correctness meant that institutions such as the police, the care system and local authorities played down, or even turned a blind eye to what was happening, in a misguided attempt to keep community cohesion. If you want to live in a multicultural society, you must a accept that different cultures have different standards. It is not Disneyworld. It is simply not the case that communities may have different language, different food, different customs and religious practices but they are Western liberals underneath, no different to you or I. It is the refusal to accept that, and (as @Marty rightly says) it is the mass outbreaks of whataboutery when a crime specific to another culture arises, that allowed the gangs to operate for so long. Finally, ask yourself how you would react if a far-right grooming gang, who’s ideology saw Muslims as sub-human, were doing the same to Pakistani girls. Would your immediate reaction be to deflect from the problem and say ‘but what about the Pakistani gangs?’ I think not.
What has happened to these relatively intelligent seeming people that they have become radicalised in this way
250,000?
You know thats just an extrapolated figure, without any basis in fact? But people, who want to have decided to use it.
Rotherham was appx 1400 known victims. The 250,000 is based on the assumption its the same then throughout the UK. Which, obviously isnt the case.
Its an awful situation carried out by awful people. But, quoting made up figures, doesn’t do much for the overall story.
Be it, 10, 10000 or 250,000 its still a very awful situation.
So Ann’s murder was political. I guess there’s absolutely no downside to constantly telling people their political opponents are evil. What could possibly go wrong.
Well, quite.
If only people would learn after Jo Cox.
Im sure you weren’t making a point that this is a “left” thing..
The country is full of arseholes from all political persuasion.
I’m not going to quibble about the figures - as you say, an awful situation.
For what it’s worth I agree with your point that there appeared to be a reluctance to recognise the extent of the issue and deal with it as a crime as it clearly should have been.
My issue with how this has played out is that has become a narrative that this is a ‘Muslim’ issue, when clearly it isn’t ‘just’ a Muslim issue and it is only a minuscule fraction (still too many) of Muslims.
It is a crime and should be treated as a crime. There should be lessons about how we better investigate these crimes
This argument reminds me off the iconic terrace chant. We’re the left side. We’re the left side over here. Were the right side. We’re the right side over here.
If the right is now represented by extreme othering of Muslims reminiscent of blood libel then politics is in a sorry state in this country.
If there are people so blinkered that they can’t accept that a subset of a subset have been responsible for a highly specific type of crime, motivated by their own in-group preference - then multiculturalism will fail.
I think the difference between us is that you’re prioritising what feels morally reassuring, whereas I’m prioritising what’s true. Reality doesn’t stop being real because it’s uncomfortable.
When you say true, is that true to what has impacted you? Or true to what you perceive may impact or?
Or you’re a racist talking bullshit
At the same time as saying you shouldn’t say people are evil because it results in real world consequences, you are happy to say “Pakistani Muslims that think you can marry children and women that wear revealing clothing deserve to be raped”
Did six million really visit the Holocaust museum in Newark?
