Feels like a decent level booking.

K…k…kone???

Don’t be silly, I would give them 12 minutes each.

Strikers and goalies have a history of swapping positions in their formative years? Maybe the OG is keen on trialling a new concept, rather than buy new forwards. May the best goalie…striker…win.

Even on the eve of the World Cup, all I’ve been thinking about is EFL Fixture day pretty much since the Rotherham game, and then the 14th August (the Carabao Cup being the first competitive game is very annoying).

I appreciate I’m likely in the minority, but I’ve never had any interest in pre-season friendlies and certainly wouldn’t pay to see one.

But it is good to see activity from the club and starting to get everything rolling for the 26/27 season, that’s the exciting bit.

All the triallists are crying

Maybe it was being a yoof but pre season friendlies used to be pretty good.

In the days you barely had any material about the club bar the weekly Bucks Free Press or if lucky an end of season supplement.

I remember being desperate for a new season to start and friendlies usually had a glam prem team to entice you in.

These days I’m glad of the months off and there’s barely any scenario I could imagine going anywhere near a ground for a mere friendly.

Tell Trialist B he’s eaten too many pies over the summer. That’ll make him cry.

Yeah that makes sense. Literally not knowing anything about the club apart from the odd snippet in the BFP or Wycombe Star from end of season to the first pre-season, it built an a intrigue and anticipation that doesn’t really exist now as we have so much information to our hands via social media.

Was reminiscing about friendlies with a work colleague, while discussing the Portsmouth announcement.

Zola’s goal. Oof. Sheringham, Ferdinand (and Rebrov?) turning up at AP. Juan Pablo Angel and Kevin Phillips out for Brownie’s testimonial.

Them were the days.

Was hoping we might get a pre season tour somewhere. I guess we aren’t that big time yet.

Some of it is aged related too. I can’t even explain the excitement of the prospect of a game in my earlier days. Just seeing those Hilbottom road blue gates coming in on the bus or those little colourful square tickets for the terrace.

These days it would take a very big game to give even a tinge of excitement pre game.

Villa in a friendly.

I remember spotting Dwight Yorke making his way across the pitch pre game and tried to get down there and get an autograph but was just too late.

But got Southgate and Bosnich’s. The latter interested in why I was wearing such a big coat in summer. Random memory.

Proper big club and all their top boys playing. Now those were proper friendlies.

I’m mid 40’s and I still get excited. But because I’ve lived in London for the last 20 years I think it’s the whole coming home thing for me. But yeah, and with all due respect, Mansfield at home or Leicester or Sheffield Wednesday at home, I know what you mean.

My best memories were mid week games in the 90’s. Finish work, drinks in the Live and Let Live, then through the woods in the dark, knowing every footstep and then the beaming lights of AP.

Yeah I know what you mean now I think about it, that was magical. Fit as a fiddle back then as well, walked back up that hill like it was nothing after the game.
