Love the crowd booing the hydro breaks…but how many of us could manage 5 mins in 30 degrees at that intensity…I think they are very sensible at this time of year. And allows the Frank Adams stand to go for a restroom break too…win win!!![]()
Particularly liked Olabiyi tracking back for an excellent tackle as one of their players looked to be through on goal in penalty area and his goal was well made and stuck!
Finky Baby is on for a big season.
Just hope it’s for us!
Fact
Some of the key takeaways from today’s match for those who couldn’t watch.
Booo hooo hooo the club won’t give me a free season ticket
I’m well aware that I’m your fav person to verbally assult and I’m storing these up for a time to cash them in! (Or I’ll completely forget and keep taking it like a man)
Honestly think we have a good chance this season Duff has really got some of his ideas through to the team , some will say portsmouth were poor but we made them look poor .
If the academy continues to bring through players such as Micah Olabiyi it’s going to more than pay for itself.
He is some talent
What relevance does this have to today’s match?
The big takeaway for me today was how fit and organised we looked. Compare this to 12 months ago. We looked unfit, lacking in any kind of structure or organisation. Dodds’ starting 11 looked like multiple guess (for him as well as fans). Duff’s starting eleven for first league game looks much more straightforward. I think we can predict 8 of the starters and he probably knows the same number (which would be 9 if Grimmer was fit). Things look positive.
Ps we desperately need a right back and at least one attacking option but Duff’s post-match comments suggest that is in hand.
By the way, how wonderful was it to watch Aaron Morley today? Absolutely class. So much confidence for us with him in the team.
Our ability to “play through the thirds” looks very very promising to me. I thought at times Anders, Morley and Henderson combined really well, and Mullins looks very dangerous when he picks up the ball in and around the edge of the opponents’ box.
To think we’ve got Scowen and Boyd-Munce as well, I think we could see Wycombe playing some really attractive football next season
The king. Best player in the league.
Cook is also capable of similar style of football.
We have so many options.
You’d expect Cook and Casey are first choice centre backs but Taylor and Hagelskjaer are quality second choices. Allen a fine back up to Harvie. In midfield Morley and Boyd-Munce surely the first two but Henderson and Scowen there with Leahy also about. Only concern is keeping everyone happy.
Anders + 1 for me
Not sure I agree about Allen. He doesn’t look like a full back to me. And Scowen is a nailed on starter when fit I’d have thought
Id ve surprised if Anders isnt first choice, if have him as our stabd out CH.
Decent performance all round Hazard, Anders, Hendo, Morley, Mullins gave us a super spine that has resilience but can also pick out a decent pass.
Silko looked ok, but a bit off the pace, Fred was Fred, Junior still looks lightweight to me, Harvie was decent at RB but prefer him on the other side, but felt Allen had a good game; so maybe we will be ok.
Of the youngsters Olabiyi was the stand out and played well on both wings & deserved his really well taken goal. of the others Keita looked decent when he came on at CB, replacing Anders.
Looking good for the start of the season
The way things are going with team selection in pre-season, Cook and Casey are being partnered together. I’d expect those to be the pairing as much as I like Hagelskjaer.
I will stand firmly away from any solid predictions…
But I will whisper with cautious optimism, that we are going in the right direction and I think we potentially could surpass last seasons results
