Very enjoyable today. Don’t want to get too excited but that looked like a squad that is ready for the new season. Olabiyi…enjoy him while you can.
I’m just glad “twitting the Otter” was related to you and not some urban dictionary type stuff.
I think i’ve missed some sort of beef here from that response!
You obviously follow the wrong people on Twitter. Or the right people.
Oh god @Malone I’ve just eaten! I’m never going to be able to read any of @micra’s posts every again
It does feel like we have a decent replacement at every position now, with the exception of right back (which will be sorted in the next few days by the looks of things). Of course this is on the proviso that we can get what we expect from our summer signings and Fink can push on. I’m sure we’ll debate the starting XI, but it’s great to see what feels like a settled squad for the first time in ages..![]()
Hazard (Macey)
Grimmer (new signing)
Casey (Taylor)
Hagelsjaer (Cook)
Harvie (Allen)
Morley (Henderson)
CBM (Scowen)
Woodrow (Mullins)
Fred (Olaybiyi)
Tezgel (Fink)
Thomas (Junior)
And of course Leahy there for further depth.
Looking forward to this season!
Any link to Duff post match comments?
“Today’s attendance was 1,820, including 578 @Pompey supporters”
Didn’t see the game today but the ability of those three to work space and move the ball into attacking areas where we have an overload is the kind of thing that makes me think we could really do some damage.
Last season there were signs of some very good stuff in those areas. The kind of football which, if executed well, I’ve never really seen from a Wycombe team.
Yep. Woodrow might not be a specialist no. 9 but he works damn hard and the number of quick, mobile and willing forward runners we had meant he could drop deeper without it negatively impacting our build-up play. Exciting to see.
My personal thoughts on today’s game at AP.
Hazard didn’t get tested until one great shot stopper at the end. He wasn’t at fault for the goal.
Taylor was great.
Anders - what a player he is. So glad he’s back and fit.
Harvie was great on the right, but we negate his pace with him having to switch to his left foot. Fine as a stand in RB, but he needs to be back ‘home’ on the left.
Morley - don’t think he misplaced a single pass. Awesome. Patrolled in front of his defenders like a Doberman. Fizzed a few lovely balls.
Mullins - some errors in the first half. Similar to last season. But in the attacking half, he’s really growing into a great midfielder.
Thomas - some wonderful footwork, he is going to be a menace.
Fred - thought he had an ‘OK’ game. Tracked back well and did his duty. Probably too wise to get ‘stuck in’ for a pre-season and we know what he brings.
Woodrow - scored one, forced a great save, going to be an important player for us.
Olabiyi - Wow. Just wow. This guy has an old head on young shoulders. Fantastic goal. Amazing tackle in our penalty area. Very excited about this young man.
Allen - solid, not spectacular, but shows his ability to play in different roles. Confident on the ball, slick passing.
I really enjoyed the game. There is a lot to be positive about. A lot. I think we can have a good season. The team look fit, sharp and up for it.
We just seemed to sit back a little too much in the last ten (or Portsmouth turned up the wick - their trialist once moved to the right was quite menacing).
Beautifully struck. Natural born goalscorer.
I can live with slackening off a bit in the last ten at 3-0 up!
Good run out today and we looked like a side with a plan and some grit. Everyone played well and we did some nice footballing. It’s hard to judge anyone from that though as everything might change a bit once real tackles are coming in, but I was surprised how weak Pompey seemed. I know it’s a friendly, but Hazard only had two shots to save, didn’t he? (Though yes one of them was a goal!). Thought Henderson and Morley were great in the middle and Thomson looked a very good prospect. Him and Fred out wide should bode well for anyone fancying a shot.
Mullins assist was excellent.
Looking good for the season ahead.
Silko Thomas for Thompson?
Is Josh Scowen still with us ?
A superb set of assessments.
Yes, he played in the friendly this morning
They signed him last summer for £1million just before the transfer deadline on Sep 1st from Hannover, he played 14 games up until November when he got injured for the rest of the season.
Needs game time and would be ideal as cover for Grimmer at right back for a month or two. Terry Devlin and Jordan Williams can play at RB for Portsmouth.
I think he was more than decent as a right sided central defender for us and I was disappointed when he went to Peterborough. On the down side, I think his personality and relationship with fans tended slightly towards the Will Nott (Norris) persuasion!
His positional versatility is a big plus.
But there are no indications are there of interest from Wycombe?
