Absolutely, very excited! Although if we lose the first couple of games this place is going into meltdown.
Standard…
It was a bit corporate, however doesn’t mean they don’t have the right intentions to make it a success. I get what they are saying that everyone has their own jobs working for the common purpose . It does seem we have lost the personalities we once had but i’m trying to be postive fingers crossed that the team can get this new playing style to be successful although to be fair it wasn’t really explained what the style is. Dodds just confuses me on that front, whatever it is it won’t happen over night , 1-2 new players let’s just hope at least one is a striker.
Agreed. I thought the idea of a director of football/head coach was a good idea. I understand that structure. It makes sense. Time will tell if the Head Coach is the right man for the job. Time will tell
Not much mention of the most important people, us the supporters.
I think they need reminding that without me, and you and anyone else who turns up on a Saturday ,then all the processes and departments are a complete waste of time.
Not sure why it needed 18 minutes to say ‘we’re following the operating model of top European clubs’, but that’s corporate speak for you.
It’s dull, bland and almost revelation free, but they seem pretty sincere about it all, so good luck to them.
Dodds just confuses me, talking in riddles. I hope he’s clearer with his players.
I thought Dodds was pretty clear. Which bits are you confused about, perhaps I can help?
How many games have those three played between them?
I recall Dodds saying that having Vokes alongside him was really important because he (Dodds) did not have a playing career behind him. Is it not important anymore?
There’s a pretty glaring lack of playing experience across most of the back room staff employed by the new regime. I do wonder if it’s a big part of the reason that the tactics weren’t getting executed as intended end of last season.
Not only more balanced but now given from an informed position rather than workingon assumptions .
Dodds team talks must be fun he bores me and would be a good cure for insomnia.
Kind of what it’s for. Why the need to hush other peoples concerns anyway, we don’t all have to agree.
At the other extreme we could get relegated and you’d get the usual few saying it gives us a better chance of promotion the following year and trust the process because the manager seems nice and some people in suits who used to work in higher leagues have spent a boatload of money.
Just try and be positive . You have to admit coming on here is not really an uplifting experience at the moment . José Mourinho ,
Brendan Rodgers,André Villas-Boas,Gérard Houllier. None of these guys ever kicked a ball either . It seems there is a desire on here to leave no stone unturned in the persuit to be as negative about Dodds as is possible.
Just watched this and my own views on this as follows:
- Thanks to the club for putting that out and for the individuals for taking.
- Dan Rice comes across well. Positive, confident. However he does not actually say much in terms of plans.
- Tom Stockwell comes across exceptionally well. He explains thinking clearly. He seems to be be a very good addition.
- I’ve already given views on Mike Dodds before but again watching his interviews he doesn’t look confident and not able to explain ideas clearly in front of camera. That’s not a problem if he’s clear in front of the players. If he’s talking about being given time that would suggest he is feeling the pressure. He also wasn’t able to explain the style of football he wants.
- Overall a fairly confident presentation but doubts continue to exist.
Reading between the lines of this interview, my key takeaways/assumptions are…
- Don’t expect any more incomings before the season, but expect a large number of outgoings (loan or permanent) - Tom talks about a squad size of 25, our website is currently showing a first team squad size of 33
- Don’t expect Mike to be in his role for long if results don’t go well - the org structure is set up so that if any individual leaves it reduces the overall impact on the club. I would therefore expect to see Head Coaches being in role for a shorter period of time
- Don’t expect big name managers/head coaches to join this club - they will be a much smaller fish in a bigger pond vs other clubs and will have far less control over decision making. It explains the decision to go with Mike over some of the bigger names who were available. Be prepared that when he leaves the club it will likely be another person to come in from another team’s coaching set up
- Mike has clearly not undergone any media training over the offseason - be prepared for some more excruciating post match interviews (regardless of the result!)
- All the foundations are being built for us to be a sustainable club in the Championship - we now just need to see a team and style of play that can get us there!
I would be amazed if we don’t sign at least 2 or 3 more before the season starts and a further 2 or 3 before end of window.
What I would say from that is we can expect a fair few departures. I would expect the following to leave this window:
Norris
Shala (loan)
Hartridge
Tafazolli
Skura (loan)
Matton (loan)
Butcher
Leahy
Cole (loan)
Bartolo (loan)
I think we also need to possibly brace ourselves for surprise departures such as Hagelskjaer and/or McCleary.
That gets squad down to 20 and 5 more additions up to 25 they are quoted as wanting.
@Gez6263 unfortunately we the fans are irrelevant to the current Project / Ownership group. If the stadium / bars / shop / on-line forums were all empty it would t matter a jot to them. It’s their club / their money / their toy. We have to lump it. Doesn’t mean we have to like it though.
What exacly did they say that makes you think they think we are an irrelivance ?
Watched 30 seconds of it…poor old Dodds, imagine having to work for a weasel like Rice… sort of fella you’d like to being jumped
There was at least 3 mention of the fans in the first 4 questions - either as part of the question or in the answer.
But either way I’m not sure what you were expecting? This whole piece was designed to be a bit of an “opening the bonnet” so the fans can start to understand the processes. It was literally for our benefit.
But sure, they didn’t name check you and only bothered to spend there time opening up to us a bit (or not at all depending on your already decided upon bias’). Damn them all.
If we were an irrelevance, they would have continued on the path of the last 6 months and not even bothered to do the piece.
