Just got round to listening to this. Excellent episode and particularly Phil’s 'Til Death Do Us Part, with Maria and Joanne as interviewers. Great work, all.
Yes. Good to hear from ‘fan Phil’. Although we know it, it’s a great reminder of our good fortune to have him at the helm.
Sad news I’m afraid.
Some of you may remember ‘Dead Phil’ AKA Phil from Rebellion who featured on Till Death Us Do Part back in Feb. I heard today that he has passed away.
It was one of my favourite interviews of the season and a lesson for us all (19 mins in)
As the voice of ‘The Opposition View’ for the past six seasons all I can say it has been a privilege to have worked with Phil. For me HE has been Mr Wycombe.
If and when he chooses to write the book I will be first in the queue for a signed copy. There will be tales to tell.
Thanks @perfidious_albion. The Opposition View is one of my all time favourite listens. I’d eagerly look forward to it even if we’d taken a hammering. Your intonations always raised a smile.
So you’re the bloke who butchered my meticulously compiled comments are you?
Seriously though, I echo your sentiments about Phil. A massive loss and another sad change to the culture we cherished.
In my opinion Phil is irreplaceable as a genuine connection between the club and its supporters.
Yes Len, that’s me. Although the old ‘unofficial’ RTB’s oppo view quotes you provided tended to be rather more scurrilous and offered a bit more to work with:wink:
Yes the comments that ‘made the cut’ did seem to be more anodyne in the second half of last season. Cant imagine why.
You did a great job getting your larynx round some of those accents over the years though. Just like a native!
The club as we knew it is being dismantled.
Phil was firstly a guy from the terrace with a passion for the club and that passion and knowledge worked so well in his other roles before and after being employed by the Couhigs.
A great guy, broadcaster and a Wycombe man through and through.
You will be missed and thank you.
I’m totally devastated.
Loved your range of accents @perfidious. I wanted to do that job myself but I feared that nerves would have got the better of me.
Also regretting now that, for the same reason, I declined the invitation to be interviewed on Ringing the Blues although I know deep down that Phil would have put me at ease. We got on well from the day I first met him. Such a wonderful guy. Will be sorely missed.
Hope the future holds the success and happiness that he and his family so richly deserve.
Literally just realized that i’ve also missed my chance to go on Ringing the Blues.
