Season tickets for kids

You only get the free shirt if you have a subscription for your child this season.

I guess it limits people buying a £25 ticket just to get the shirt.

What they should have said is, “you get the free shirt after attending 10 games”

Please read my post before this one and you will see how positive I am.

By the way, I have figured out who you are…

Tremendous initiative by the club. Hopefully crowds will increase by being in the Championship but if we don’t get there this year, I would expect this initiative to boost crowds in League1.

I don’t think that’s the case. The wording says all kids get a free shirt with a season ticket and any kid already on a subscription will see that subscription reduce inline with the new pricing structure and will also be eligible for a shirt.

I think you’ve misinterpreted it. It reads as all child ST holders will get one.

This is a fantastic initiative. I take my daughter to half a dozen games a year and this will certainly encourage me to bring her to more.

This is an amazing idea and it has actually got me thinking about buying my 6yr old a ticket as he has just started training with a club. Hopefully this is the start of things to come and we’ll be seeing more activities like this coming out to encourage the community to become more involved in the club.

Do you think they will also allow the rule from this season (or was it a few season’s ago?) where they allowed you to bring an adult in on a child’s season ticket to the midweek fixtures?

As I’ve repeatedly moaned on here about almost £50 for my thirteen-year-old son and I to attend, this can only be good news. Now, all we need is for him to learn the intricacies of the game and enjoy Doddsball!

I echo all the above on this, I think it’s a terrific idea. And if we can fill Adams Park with the positivity that kids bring to counteract some of the toxic spite we’ve witnessed in recent weeks then so much the better

I 100% agree @Meursault - I too have been unhappy with the cost for such a long time this is excellent news. I honestly think the majority of fans already sitting in the upper tier of the Frank Adams stand will be surprised just how many adults are happy to bring their child with them and sit up there, paying the additional amount for the more expensive adult ticket. It reaches the point of not wanting to sit on the bottom row of the Family Stand by the corner flag so not bothering to attend, as there are no decent seats left in the Family Stand nearer the middle. Sitting much higher, even in the wings, is a completely different view of the match.

To add, there is another excellent benefit to this for families which is overlooked.

We are in a cost of living crisis and it’s bloody hard to find affordable things to do with your kids these days.

Knowing that at least one parent can pop along with a child / children every home match for a fraction over £1 per match per child is significant to lots and lots of households.

Well done to the club, everyone involved. We have to give credit where it is due so for all the negativity against Dan Rice there is no way a move like this goes through without the backing or perhaps even the initiative of the chairman.

Now to sort out the football itself :grimacing:.

Hang on, weren’t you ripping up your season ticket (again) last week?

For some reason, I’m getting visions of a goldfish waiting to be won at the fair.

When season tickets for kids were free in the family stand, a club audit discovered lots of them were completely unused, being taken up by season ticket holders who fancied the extra room.

It’ll be a shame if this happens again, and even worse if the club end up blocking out £31 per game seats in the process. I’m already thinking I need to get one of my ST mates to get one of these so I can reserve a seat for the 10 home games I can make these days (obviously I’ll still pay for an adult ticket).

Regardless of the above, it is a great initiative. On this one, it’s a hats off to the ownership group from me.

I agree with your concerns on this @ArnosGrove so hopefully there will be something in the terms and conditions to protect the club. For example renewal may not be possible at the reduced rate in future seasons if the seat is occupied less than 25% of matches perhaps. The ticketing system must be able to calculate this.

This is a great initiative. Having taken my son to a few games (he’ll be 3 at the start of next season) it’s noticeable how much more he enjoyed it 1) being higher up with a better view and 2) with other children around.

I’d probably have taken him to a few games next season anyway so this will certainly be an offer we take up.

I’m sure the digital ticketing system will make it easier to monitor usage and discourage people from taking a ticket which is never or rarely used.

*Also he loves wearing his football shirt and declaring himself to be either Udoh or Kone so there’s clearly something appealing to kids about wearing the same kit as the players

Ya see, that’s the fallacy of giving away free tickets. To you, the person that receives it, you aren’t actually losing anything financially if you don’t turn up. It’s really easy to think “the weathers looking a bit dodgy, I’m not out of pocket if I give this one a miss”.

So the fact there is a financial hit, albeit it small, may have a psychological impact to encourage people to go more often.

It may be a really problem that people that have sat with the same people might get mixed up a bit - but I guess the clubs answer to that will be to reserve those tickets from general sale at first and encourage more early renewal, which again is a win win for them.

You shouldn’t refrain from a good, generous deed just because some people might take advantage of it.

They will have to make sure the wifi works better than it does at the moment. In my experience an active internet connection at all times is a necessary life support system for 10-14 year olds…

Joking aside a great initiative and probably the most positive vibe from the club for weeks

£25 is worth ‘losing’ to guarantee I can sit with my mates.

I’ve given up my STH after 25 years because it’s a 280 mile round trip and there are now too many Tuesday / Friday night games to make it viable. The average cost was hitting £60 a game.

Unless I buy one of these, I doubt I’ll find a seat anywhere near the people I sit with, as they’ll have been sold for £1. Still think it’s a great initiative from the club, but I’ll have to take out the insurance policy!
