Signings - Hit or Miss

It was odd with Leahy, as I swear he was 100% for ages and looked brilliant at them.

Then missed a couple and the perception now is that he’s poor at them.

Would like to see his pen stats for us if anyone can dig them out.

check his stats from set plays too, as i think he is poor at them (i know we were blessed with JJ for years and it would take some doing to be at his level)

To be honest, it was quite embarrassing with the Cardiff coverage where they were talking about Bell and him being our top goal scorer on 6 league goals whereas their leading goal scorer was on 11 or 12. It just screams out that we need more firepower up front. However, we aren’t short of goals, if we had a good striker, our place would be much higher up than down!

If we had a new striker, what type of striker you going for? And how would you set the team up.

352 - you would replace Fred, who has be ome the front running player? Or back to 433, but need different wingers who dont cut in, if you dont want a deeper forward, like Woodrow?

Happens to all the clubs. The deal was reportedly upto 2.8m. 21 games, now out on loan. Its hard to get all transfer right

Well my argument is that Fink looked more likely to score in his cameo than Woodrow had in the previous 78 minutes (whilst also mitigating that he brings other qualities to the team). I implied that scoring goals was not the stronest part of his game.

Stats where then quoted with the intention of suggesting otherwise.

I will allow you to determine whether said producer of stats was trying to suggest he is a prolific scorer or not.

Ultimately his record with us suggests that I am correct that scoring goals for us is not his biggest quality. In fact most stats out there suggest this except one season at Barnsley.

Don’t think you will find anyone who thinks hes prolific. Or even that hes expected to be. But, he does get into position to shoot, as shown in the stats quoted.

But, there is no argument that Woodrow is a prolific scorer, he isnt, and never has been. He did, help Fred and Bell to score by his positioning, at the start of Duffs tenure though

I do not think Fink can be defended to the extent you are all defending him. As a striker, you HAVE to score those chances. All 3 of them.

Fink missing three good chances surely makes him look less likely to score?! He mainly got those chances because Wimbledon were chasing the game.

I really can’t agree with any of this argument. Woodrow is a proven goalscorer and fantastic at link up play. Fink has a long way to go to be half the player Woodrow is. I haven’t yet seen enough to suggest he’ll make it, but I hope he does.

Christ, he must have been expecting some proper shite. And he signed them.

One of the chances was saved well and he went for the far corner low down (like strikers are told to) one hit the post. He was unlucky. What would have concerned me more is if he had skied one over the bar (like Woodrow did in the first half )and missed the other by a wide margin. He didn’t he was unlucky.

I am not suggesting he will be the next Klinsman and I have acknowledged that Woodrow has a better all around game. I doubt he will make it with us but I see those near misses (and they were very close) as evidence that there is a striker in there not the other way around.

He may look 36 but he’s only 22. Notts Forest thought highly enough to give Mcneilly a contract. Other than in one or two games he looked way off it. Does this mean they got it wrong?

I just refuse to write Fink off like some people like to.It’s been a difficult start for him but Anders was being similarily written off at one point and maybe a few people have just got it wrong.
Time will tell.

That penultimate paragraph is a bit confusing. And there’s no such club as Notts Forest (as far as I know). You will have got a few tut tuts from @Wendoverman, @Forestblue etc.

Forest fans always get really annoyed and tell you off if you don’t say Notts Forest

They much prefer it

Rubbish!

MON once told me off for saying Notts Forest.

And deserved I’d say! It’s like someone calling us High Wycombe Wanderers.

Or ‘The Wyc’.

Yep, just jars saying it. Dare say only wind up merchants and yoofdem would ever shorten it like that.

Some adopted that, but never felt right did it?

I didn’t mind it from the Americans but any local using it in an unironic way should be ashamed.
