Not too many central defenders would have scored 8 goals in 83 appearances (as Joe did). And my monocle is definitely not rose tinted.
You can pretty much say that for any CB - including Sonny and Caleb. The current âbuild from the backâ style of play thatâs become prevalent across football makes it far more likely than when their job was to launch it at the earliest opportunity.
I agree (at this level) Iâd also have Joe in the team over Sonny because when we played from the back and our ethos was we will score more than you, it was fantastic football. He was part of that. However, Championship sides are not attracted to players who do make mistakes. Joe was a lucky boy on many occasions. Hence why most likely his mobility and playing out capabilities are currently precluding him from a higher move. And Iâve probably been reading X too much where there are so many comments saying âonly Huddersfieldâ, âhe is much better than L1â etc. Does my head in a bit.
I guess the question then becomes, if we canât keep players like him, then what is our attraction for new ones.
I wonder how much input Mike Dodds will have into player recruitment decisions.
I know that he wouldnât have wanted to rock the boat during the closing stages of last season and therefore mostly opted to stand by the players who got us to the top of the League One table but, perhaps wrongly, I got the impression that his very limited use of players recruited in the January window was his way of signalling his reluctance to to turn to players in whose recruitment heâd had no say.
Only players who make NO mistakes are welcomed in the Championship?
I hope West Ham donât know King Kone muffed a few chances?
Every transfer window, some Wycombe fans make the mistake of thinking we are a bigger draw than we are. If you canât see why Forino went to Bolton and Low went to Huddersfield from a career point of view, I donât know what to say.
We havenât âlet himâ join another League 1 club. We offered a new contract, he turned it down.
Two points should be remembered Firstly, Swansea (I think) wanted him in January and we turned down their bid. Why have they not come back for him?
Secondly, Blooms dropped him for the Wembley game and has as far as we are aware not tried to sign him now. For Low, joining Luton would be a better chance of sucess than Huddersfield
The simple answer for those Championship sides who want to progress is yes.
Where are all the Championship clubs coming in for him. And why havenât they come in for him.
Strikers get a lot more leeway when they miss chances. Itâs usually called being in form or out of form.
Unfortunately defenders are much more in the spotlight if they make mistakes.
I canât answer the question as to why Championship clubs have not come in for Joe Low, but I am extremely confident he will be a Championship defender within the next few seasons.
Youâre not going to let this one go, are you @Anubisblue. Reminds me of my son-in-lawâs Jack Russell with her rubber bone. I always used to tell her that if she didnât let go I wasnât going to play any more.
You did predict that you were going to get slayed of course but, to be fair, that hasnât happened. The only real quibble I have is with your contention that Joe Low made quite a lot of mistakes. Iâm not sure what sort of mistakes you are referring to. Misplaced or readily intercepted passes, failure to cut out crosses or block shots, getting caught in possession - the list goes on.
Iâm worried that my memory may be letting me down as I genuinely donât recall ever thinking âOh dear, Joeâs mispassed/lost the ball, failed to cut out that crossâ or whatever. I even wondered if in your mind you might have been remembering errors made by another youngster - Declan Skura - who I greatly admire but whose inexperience did lead to the occasional error.
If replying to replies is not letting it go I guess forums would just be people talking in silos.
Anyway thatâs why we all love football, your opinion is just as worthy as mine. Is it not? Or do I need to provide data to back up what Iâve seen with my eyes, and perhaps have a different perspective.
I generally judge my opinion of a player on how I ferl when I see them in the starting line up. In Joe Lowâs case I canât ever remember being anything other than pleased.
Swanseaâs manager, Luke Williams, got sacked. Maybe the new guy, Alan Sheehan, doesnât rate him?
I honestly donât have an opinion on Joe Lowâs perceived shortcomings. Itâs quite simply that my own recollection is that he was no more error prone than any of the other central defenders gracing the Adams Park turf in recent years.
If Joe Low had any short comings I would say that it was he didnât fit Dodds preferred 3/5 at the back system and maybe a bit of pace.
Bradley was being a colossus when he came to the club and didnât deserve to be dropped and a shoe in as the central player of 3.
Taylor was another colossus and perhaps marginally better at bringing the ball out of defence with the ball at his feet.
Jack Grimmer, having played FB lots could cover excellently if/when our Right wingback went forward, get forward himself and was club captain and was a big voice on the pitch.
None of those things are really his fault.
He is a fine player and will go on to higher levels I am sure.
As others have pointed out, Dodds wasnât the first manager to drop him if tactically there were better options for big games. If heâs turned down offers for the last 12 months, as the PR suggested, the decision wasnât just based on the last few months of the season.
I wish him nothing but luck. Go well Joe.
But I do hope we make you look average when we play Huddersfield. Nothing personal, I just want us to win.

Excited to see what you can do @jtilley_98 - and happy birthday! pic.twitter.com/ZAXqORsfvk
And weâre off, think heâs a good signing, once you cut through all the mumbo jumbo in the announcement. Loving the mad swan training gear.
They might as well take my ÂŁ40 now.
best part of this signing was the training shirt
