The 2025/26 Transfer Thread

We were talking about transfers. It’s the transfer thread.

As, I say. Points are irrelevant to the discussion on the need for transfers and how the squad has been reshaped, but thanks for contributing anyway.

I’m not sure posters were certain we would be promoted under Blooms, but I think he could have turned around the ‘slump’ in January and I think the management team would perhaps have had more success in inspiring the team in the run-up to the playoffs.

Easy to say I know as we will never know. MD got a raw deal…not first choice, not that much pedigree and with no credit in the bank.

Majority hope he proves everyone wrong even if it proves James right.

I’ve got no problem with having a technical passing game. However you need to employ a coach that has the ability to do this and at the same time get the odd three points!

Good point Bayo . I would rather we got the odd three points over the odd one point or the even no points.

I don’t think we’d have been promoted last season if Blooms had stayed, but we’d have had a lot more fun along the way.

If your point remains valid after another 6 games I will concede you are correct .

If you add one more game they had exactly the same pts record. If we take Mike’s 17 league games in charge last season, not including play offs and Matt’s last 17, it’s a completely different story but I appreciate the point you were trying to make!

Mike W7 D4 L6

Matt W11 D4 L2

We were still scintillating at times during that 9 game spell though. The comeback at Exeter was brilliant, although the first 20 was awful. The destruction of Shrewsbury and Stevenage away phenomenal. Our home form had dropped off and we were lacklustre away at Charlton who did a number on us.

I am not sure we would have finished in the autos nonetheless and I am not sure we would have maintained our impressive PPG for the rest of the season either. I’m reasonably certain we would not have on both accounts.

For me Dodds was not fortunate enough to have Morley and Harvie at his disposal, which undoubtedly impacted his ability to win games. He started well from a points view point. However, I think his defence first approach and lack of attacking intent has allowed the narrative to build up into a crescendo.

I thought we might have turned a corner with the performances against Charlton in the play offs but so far this season we seem to have gone further backwards. 2-0 down at home to Fleetwood was MBs sliding doors moment, let’s hope Grimmer’s header is Mike Dodds’.

Curious that you see being a supporter as a “job”. What’s the salary like?

Any transfer news?

Can’t believe how many dodds fans we still got on here feels like they would rather have him stay keep us struggling than us improve and go up with a better manager.

Another tangent but it’s interesting hearing so many think Bloomfield wouldn’t have got us promoted in the end. I do think losing Morley and having to work with Simons as his replacement would’ve been detrimental. But I think Kone would’ve returned to form long before the end of season and would’ve got us over the line.

But if Bloomfield hadn’t taken us up, would he have been such a desirable asset for other clubs? Maybe Dan Rice did him a favour by hastening his exit from the team when his star was at its peak?

Ryan Tafazolli could be playing under Ian Holloway shortly.

I am quite surprised by those people who state confidently that we wouldn’t have gone up if MB had stayed.

Even with all the inevitable disruption following MBs departure (and excluding ANY debate about any change in tactics) automatic promotion was still in our hand with 2/3 games left in the season.

Take that disruption out and I think it’s a reasonable argument to say we would probably have had enough points by then.

(Not guaranteed of course but in my view quite likely)

This is a transfer thread. @glasshalfempty Thanks for trying to get it back on track.

So now a lot of people are sure we WOULDN’T have gone up under Bloomfield.

We’d have had a damn good chance surely!?

We seemed to stay 2nd in the table for ages, with Doddsy barely winning a game for starters.

And Bloomy wouldn’t have gone all out defence and hope to nick 1-0 from a set piece from a giant defendre.

Dear oh lore…

Who has said they’re sure we wouldn’t have gone up under Bloomfield?

@James?

Is “Bloomfield going up” rhyming slang or a quirky idiom for a new transfer target? Only on the transfers thread, that is.
