Wycombe Wanderers Women are today launching a very exciting part ownership opportunity after completing a fantastic season that resulted in promotion to tier 4. Here is some detail about the opportunity via the Foundation team:
Wycombe Wanderers Women (W3) sits at the perfect cross section of our club connecting three key parts - our Football Club, Foundation and Supporters Trust! Now we want to bring it closer to the fans and our business community with a seat at the table. Not a gesture, not an empty promise - PART OWNERSHIP.
Following our promotion to Tier 4, W3 is seeking new investors, fan-driven-funding and a bridge to our business community. An exclusive opportunity to join the club as a part owner, to shape direction, influence decisions and to join our journey up the football pyramid. To truly BE PART OF IT.
Our aim is to grow the club, the fanbase and the connection and see this as a means to deliver all three. For details check the flyers, scan the QR or reach out.
While I completely understand the model and the effort to get the community involved, in the current climate, I think it’s going to be a real struggle to meet the limits required. We’ve all seen that football ownership is a money-pit and noone will ever get value added or money back from owning a football club
This is an interesting opportunity to support the Women’s team on an exciting new part of their story, for me its not about getting a financial return it is about enhancing the opportunities for females & supporting them.
On a different note I am also involved in my local side (NLS Tier 2) & we are looking at what we need to do to make embed the club in the local community to build the supporter base and make the club break even, this ranges from simple things like providing 13 day a fortnight leisure facilities for locals, putting in a 3G pitch to allow us to bring the youth teams back to the ground & start up a women’s side, installing an FA 5x5 3G pitch for locals to use & setting up walking football teams, improved post match offers to encourage fans to stay in the club house longer, other leisure facilities including Padel courts and a wellness centre. It is possible to develop a sustainable model below the EFL, whether long-term that can be transferred to the EFL is the big question.
I think it’s a shame that a football team that plays under the banner of Wycombe Wanderers isn’t funded by those that are funding other Wycombe Wanderers football teams - including teams they are creating themselves.
I’m sure just a fraction of the investment the ownership are putting into the academy would go a huge way in covering the budget of the Women’s team for several seasons.
In fact, now that i think of it, i think it will be a long term own goal if the club don’t start creating youth teams of the girls and women of the area to also benefit from the training ground they want to build near Slough.
I guess they won’t though because of three letters:
I couldn’t attend or watch the Trust meeting last night but was this investor/ownership opportunity discussed, does anyone know? At £40 per season the “fan funded exclusive” option almost seems too cheap given that is the current price for a season ticket. I’ve registered my interest with the QR code so will see what happens next.
You get 20% equity for an upfront investment of £100,000, so presumably W3 is being valued at £500,000. How has that value been determined? It’s not clear to me if that is an investment, for a potential future return, or just sponsorship.
While I agree with the principle and love that the club are trying to get local people involved, we have seen that while everyone has the same passion for a club, a lot of people have very different views and it would take the enjoyment out of it
I understand that the Investor option at £40k per season/£100k upfront is for long term ownership with the potential for future return, whilst the Fan Funded options are just for the season. I see the Fan Funded option at £40 a bit like an enhanced season ticket, as alongside the match tickets you’d get a say in how the club is run.
