Wow he‘s certainly looked very forward with his development. Maybe he’ll feature as a forward in spells throughout the season. I assume he’ll have a dual role in the academy and senior teams? Many questions but what a positive step in the academy’s formative existence.
Let’s not get carried away with the ‘he’s one of our own’ chants though as we all know what happens next. That meme slogan of ‘never fall in love with a loan player’ might have to change to ‘never fall in love with an academy player’. I can see Lommy’s beaming smile from HP15.
It was a bit reminiscent of some of the frustrating performances we saw earlier in the season from the first team. Lots of impressive build up play, playing out from the back and through the midfield but always seemed to fizzle out when we got into the final third. I don’t remember their keeper making a save but it’s possible my eyelids might have frozen over.
One goal always looked likely to win it and sadly some pretty lax defending let them in. As Gaz once said though there is no failure, just learning and I’m sure they’ll use this disappointment and progress
A fair reflection I agree can’t remember having a shot. I think Bromley kept us at bay pretty comfortably to be honest. It was nice to be able to go down and watch them in the stadium surroundings. I’m sure they don’t always want to play midweek evenings but for a fiver and a game of football at Adams Park I’d go and watch them regularly if I can fit it around work etc. I’m guessing they normally play midweek daytime though?
Good analysis. I’d say that we did have a shot right at the end, when the no. 6 (sorry - can’t recall who that is and no teamsheet etc.) ran through on goal and the Bromley keeper had to dive at his feet. We also had numerous shots blocked, it’s fair to say, by a robust and determined Bromley defence.
But I agree that it looked like a first team performance earlier in the season, with Cameron Stones generally too isolated and the wide players turning inside into traffic too much, rather than stretching the Bromley defence on the outside and getting crosses in. That said It could have gone either way.
A great shame, as the team has been a pleasure to watch and there is clearly a lot of talent there - very impressive given the short time we’ve been back at the youth team thing. Hopefully, they can get a win at Sandhurst and go deeper into the B&B.
I thought Wycombe looked very good technically, but as has been said did not create too many clear cut chances in the final third. I was looking forward to seeing Cam Stones and although he linked play well, I cannot recall him having many clear cut chances.
I thought Bromley grew into the game, absorbed pressure and then took their one real chance. It also looked to me that Bromley, although less technically gifted were physically a big team. I wonder whether because this is year 1 of the academy, are all our lads Under 17s/1st year scholars and are they playing against some older lads. I might be totally wrong on this.
Enjoyed my first opportunity to see the academy lads. Lots of potential here and hopefully the start of great things.
There is no Academy fixture tomorrow. The lack of publicity around the matches was raised at the forum last night, particularly the lack of results on the day and any scorers. Whilst wanting to protect the players, Jeremy Sauer seemed to be willing to give more information, we will see at the next match.
Video of two of the goals from last week’s match against Chelsea. The result may have been 1-1, it’s not clear. Koray Gurpinar’s goal is pretty special.
