BBC TV Non Coverage coverage

Discuss…

Living in North Bucks, my default BBC region is South. That gives me video match reports and news on the Southampton/Portsmouth clubs, and also on Oxford and MK, but not WW. Local news goes down to Aylesbury and Princes Risborough in Bucks.

I found out recently that you can change the default region on iPlayer, so I set it to London but still the news doesn’t give WW reports. One of these two regions has to take responsibility for us. The BBC spokesperson did not address that.

I know it shouldn’t have to be the case, but getting promoted to the Championship will almost certainly help our case for being noticed and appreciated.

I imagine it’s an issue of many levels including the general Wycombe area being taken for granted and under supported by local government, lack of club investment in marketing and the staff to do it (and support/enhanced the small but excellent team we have). Etc

We seem to fall between regions and therefore get forgotten. The weather map thingy bugs me, BBC London show Marlow but never Wycombe. 3CR is getting a little better but a few years ago it was Watford, Luton, Stevenage, MK and then if maybe they have time left the mighty Blues, but they are a little better these days and I think Sam A does a good job on the comms for games.

I normally end up with the London local news coverage, so was surprised this morning to get South East news instead. No mention of Wycombe though and Wycombe seemed to be off the top of their weather map, so not chance of it being marked on that.

Does anyone know why it’s BBC Three Counties instead of a separate service for Bucks and the other two? Seems like almost every other county has their own station.

He ought to be careful. Writing ‘letters of complaint’ could lead to accusations of terrorism.

I think there’s only one direction of travel on that front and it’s consolidation rather than expansion.

I can tell where Wycombe is based on a map. Not too bothered if I have to use Marlow as a reference.

3CR is a bizarre grouping of counties though. Really, we should be in the short-lived BBC Thames Valley, but that was disbanded.

But there’s never been a BBC Bucks has there?

First world problems.

Wycombe have always existed in a media black spot. Not London, not South East, not South West, nor Midlands.

We are unique. We are Wycombe.

A while ago there was idle talk from the government about allowing more independent localised stations to broadcast, some wag suggested a station for Wycombe, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes should be called WAMK TV.

For a brief while in 2011 I lived in Aylesbury and Wycombe Wanderers news was reported in South Today then. Living in Reading now, it is quite jarring that there’ll be mentions of Aylesbury, MK and even Princes Risborough, but seemingly concerted efforts to wipe our fine Chair Metropolis off the map.

Similarly, 3CR’s coverage of us is largely an after thought that, without the sterling efforts of volunteers like Sam Avery, would be practically non-existent with the station seemingly being run by people in the Luton/Watford bubble that has little to no connection with, or interest in High Wycombe.

No, and there won’t ever be one. BBC local radio is on a one-way journey and it’s not to expansion.

Is this the downmarket metropolitan liberal elite?

When the Premier League is not on…neither is Football Focus. The fact is even local media concentrate on the big boys.

Having said that 3CR rave about MK Dons, Watford and Luton, nod towards Stevenage and might mention us if we win. :slightly_smiling_face:

One game we won it seemed like the whole of my 20 minute journey home, the radio show was dominated by fans opinions and the presenters opinions about the latest MK loss.

Does Wycombe Sound do anything on the Wanderers, or did that fall away when Phil left?

Funny little club, but that’s the way we like it.
