Think we need to have a back-up striker on bench starting on Saturday. Either Fink or Stones. Don’t mind which.
Wonderfully eclectic lineup and an opportunity, however brief, to compare Bradley Fink with Cameron Stones. Would love to see the latter get a few minutes up front during the run in.

Attendance at Slough was 892. I hear we sold 300 in advance.
The final will be back at Slough (the venue was predetermined before the semifinals were played). The date will be Tuesday, April 14 I believe the opponents will be Hungerford.

To be fair to Fink, he took the goal very well, yes he missed a few including a penalty in the shoot out, however he looked fitter and faster. We also have to take into account that the conditions were terrible.

Your right, we clearly need to take into account the conditions but equally which you’ve forgotten to mention, is the quality of the opposition. Slough Town are a very long way off League 1 standard and that’s what we bought him for.

The goal aside after 2 mins Fink was really poor last night. Several occasions the ball landed one or two yards from him and he failed to attempt a challenge. His lack of effort at times was disappointing. If he wanted to make the next L1 squad he should have torn Slough apart or at least attempted to.
Although I would say the bounce on the pitch and conditions made it difficult for everyone to control the ball and pass well.
Gregory really shone as the game went on, slotting into centre back and doing well there when Quinlan went off with cramp.
I thought King, Matton and McCallum were the other stand outs.
Scowen was really poor for first 15 but then put in a really great performance and showed his quality on a number of occasions.
Shame the Final is the same night as the Sponsors dinner, as that means the academy players cannot join the dinner and one or two first teamers might be missing if they play in the final.

How did Alex Lowry play?
Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, he looked really rusty. The things he tried didn’t really come off, not for want of trying, but with his team-mates not quite on the same wavelength and not anticipating, etc. A shame.
Importantly, he had new hair. I think modelled on vintage 1990-style Nicky Evans. It’s good that he’s been delving into club history.

First half he tried to dribble his way past several players to goal, when the pitch and conditions were probably not conducive. Second half I thought he was more of a team player, passed better and more quickly when surrounded. Overall he contributed well to the team’s performance. He is always a threat and is capable of magic. Whether he did enough to impress the watching Duff, I’m not so sure. It will be interesting to see if he or Fink are in the squad Saturday. Same for Matton who had a good game. Skura’s absence since being recalled is puzzling, he has never let us down and his performance at Swansea was outstanding.
Edit - I forgot that Jack Matton is on loan at Hanwell Town until the end of the season, but we might see him in the Final.

The pitch at Arbour Park is 10 years old and will be replaced in June, hopefully with a softer bounce! At least we know what to expect from the current pitch, when we play there again next month.

I’m really pleased at the way we’ve approached the B&B this season. It’s given our academy player a taste of higher stakes football and bigger crowds and given local grassroots clubs good paydays. Working in some fringe first teamers last night was the right thing to do, but i’m glad we were able to do it without excluding the kids that have got us this far. This competition is part of our heritage and identity as a club.
Obviously i hope we ‘get our trophy back,’ next month, but if not it’s still been a worthwhile exercise.
