If you’re interested in that sort of thing, Spiderman: Brand New Day is very enjoyable. Marvel continues to right the ship.

Just got offered a last minute freebie ticket to see Primus tonight in Brixton. Haven’t seen them since 2009.

Definitely of a certain era, and a band I rarely casually listen to these days, but hugely influential for me.

Hope they’re cooking on gas.

I have nothing else…

Enjoy. I’ve not listened to Primus for many years, but I do occasionally listen to The Claypool Lennon Delirium.

Excellent, have fun - haven’t seen them since they supported Jane’s Addiction at Brixton back in the early 90s. A very underratedly influential band.

I’ve enjoyed Muse’s new album The Wow! Signal.

Mixed reviews some loving it, some not so. But I think it’s a solid album, their best in a long while, and ‘Shimmering Scars’ being the highlight for me.

I’m enjoying it too. The aforementioned song plus ‘Unravelling’ are my favourites. A break up album and you can feel the emotion in his voice. Cryogen a nice throwback to Plug in baby also.

Not your normal kind of post but Dolly Parton has died,

Jolene Google Search

Legend is an overused word. Not here. By all accounts a thoroughly decent human being to boot.

I saw the excellent Hayseed Dixie recently at this year’s Fairport’s Cropredy Convention. Their frontman said he was in a friend’s basement with their first garage band when said friend’s Aunty was visiting. She brought them down some snacks and offered words of encouragement. To his friend she was just Aunt Dolly.

Like any self-respecting old goth, I love Dolly Parton. No goth band ever wrote a song as gutwrenchingly sad as ‘Down From Dover’. And the Sisters of Mercy’s cover of ‘Jolene’ is a proper banger.

Also, what an astonishing human being she was. Used her fame and wealth to help those less fortunate. A lesson for certain others in the States how to live your life.

Saw an absolutely astonishing show last night at The Bullingdon in Oxford - New York’s A Place To Bury Strangers and Germany’s Die Anstalt; the former a blisteringly loud mix of experimental noise invention and all-out sonic brutality, the latter, seemingly inspired by early 80s electro-punk pioneers DAF, featuring a superb singer who managed to spend an entire song suspended upside down from the lighting rig without missing a note. An exhilarating contrast to some of the football I’ve seen so far this season.

I’m at Mucky Weekender at the moment. Best set yesterday was Sabres Of Paradise, who acknowledged their debt to the late Andrew Weatherall with various images of him on the backdrop at times during the show. Looking forward to Dub Pistols and many more today.
