“Getting old, travel is too far, done amazing ting with Wycombe”
“So you’ve not found a bigger club that you think is a better prospect / bigger payday that I might want to just buy into directly myself and save time building stuff at at Wycombe?”
The Rungrado 1st of May Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium occupying an area of 20.7 hectares (51 acres) on the island Rŭngrado, Pyongyang, North Korea.
No-one in their right mind would try and transplant a club miles from it’s home, alienating the existing fan base and the locals and expect bigger crowds would they?
I think we need to change the heading of this thread or pin the info buried in the Q&A so a number of posters are not unnecessarily stressed and worried thinking the club are planning to move the stadium to Slough It clearly states , but hidden from the headlines, that the club is planning on moving the academy and training facilities to this location, which is an excellent mid term plan, not the stadium. If could open a whole new fan base for the club from those visiting the site. Now just need more marketing and investment in sports facilities around the town, and schools and perhaps look at another local youth / sports site that needs sponsorship and upgrading !
How about sponsoring the local football pitches behind Cressex School /Asda or renaming and painting in the quarters the swimming pool and sports complex facing the motorway at Handy Cross. :) Everyone driving down the M40 would see the club then!!
Said it before, but I think the best option would be to relocate the businesses on the approach to Adams Park to other units in the area ( must be loads of empty industrial units in and around High Wycombe), and then redevelop Adams Park, create space for a second access road , car parks restaurants and retail units.
Done well this would surely be an improvement on the current scruffy industrial site , with HGVs trundling down Hillbottom Road at all hours, and improved facilities for Sands residents as well as better access to an improved , modernised Adams Park.
I’m not sure how “clearly stated” it is, as I can’t find the word “training” anywhere on that page, and the only mention of “academy” is a golf academy. In fact, there’s almost nothing about Wycombe Wanderers on there at all, it’s mostly wanging on about golf.
Hi Eric and others - my comments are so people don’t get as stressed as they might…
under the FAQ’s after the main article, click on ‘Will Public Access be protected?’ and at the bottom of this the comments are:
‘‘A part of the northern section of the existing golf course would become the Club’s Training facility, and this would be the only part of the site fenced to protect the privacy and security of the players and Academy training there.
Ultimately, local people will continue to be able to visit this site, play sport, golf, walk their dogs or connect with nature.’’
This confirms , according to the wording above, that the site has been bought to develop a world class academy to move into once the lease at Marlow Road expires.
I think we should focus on the fact the club are making long term investment plans for the training facilities which is a positive.
The first announcement said - Press release
“Our vision is founded on three key pillars: community access, sporting excellence, and environmental sustainability. From improving grassroots and multi-sport infrastructure to developing a state-of-the-art academy and training centre, we aim to create a lasting legacy that benefits both current users and future generations.
Having spent a few years visiting many EFL and Premiership training facilities in the early 2000’s , the players and staff spend only 5 hours or so, once every 2 weeks+ the odd Tuesday night, at the stadium. The rest of their working lives is spent at the training facility and that is are where most of them would associate as being the club ‘base’.
Many training grounds are also miles and miles away from that club’s stadium, often in the middle of nowhere …so as someone else mentioned, a clumsy but understandable reference to Farnham being the future home of the club - as it is though the case for 90% of the time for the club staff and players. For us as supporters, the focus understandably is on the Stadium, but that is only visited by the players and training staff once every few weeks perhaps!
