Former WWFC Footballers

Obviously Michael Foot is most famous as a politician but little known fact is that he was also the oldest player registered with the Football League.

I didn’t know that, registered with Plymouth Argyle on his 90th birthday.

Former Wycombe MP Paul Goodman is a Wanderers fan, and was at Orient last week.

No fan of the Tories, but he was a vast improvement on his predecessor ‘Ascot Ray’ and Cry Baby Brexit Baker that followed him.

Okay, so this admittedly a bit niche. Michael Foot apparently once had his bag searched on the way into Home Park. Among his matchday essentials, he had a a copy of Milton’s Areopagitica. “It’s fine Mr. Foot” said the steward “I’m sure you haven’t got anything dangerous in there”. “On the contrary,” replied Foot “in its time, it was regarded as absolutely incendiary.”

The Athletic are on the case and have found a different narrative to the one put out by Ipswich Town FC:

  • The invitation to Farage was made by an associate of Ashton.
  • Farage was met by a club executive and then had lunch with Ashton and Luke Werhun, the club’s COO.
  • The club gifted the politician six ‘Farage 10’ Ipswich shirts free of charge.
  • Members of staff, some senior, have made formal complaints to Ipswich’s human resources department over the stunt.

Matt Butcher with a banger for Salford.

Interesting. Who was that against, @wwfcblue?!

I can’t possibly repeat that name in this County.

Superb passer of a ball, could switch the play with loan accurate passing, his lack of pace told in the end.

Congratulations to Ali Al-Hamadi who scored the first goal for Iraq in their 2-1 win over Bolivia last night. Iraq took the final qualifying place for the WC as a result.

Quiz time, 2 players who went onto play for the Wanderers. Who are they ?

Kenny Swain and Steve Wicks?

Steve Wicks is one, but although Kenny Swain is in the photo, he joined Chelsea from us. This chap went onto play for the Wanderers after being at Stamford Bridge.
