Probably my Age, but I love a good old-fashioned back 4
Jordan Ibe pleads guilty to assaulting his girlfriend, awaiting sentencing.
That is terrible.
Where did it all go wrong?
World at his feet, a family who cared and protected him.
At 15 he ran to his mum at AP after scoring and you thought he was destined for greatness, he was for a few brief years but the fall has been hard to watch, even before todays awful news.
We’ve had a few ex or current players who’ve spent a long time in jail or been banned from football.
Gavin Grant being the worst but we have had plenty more.
I think there should be a rule on the minimum age to play professional football, id say 18, but maybe 17. While ensuring education is still ongoing.
Still only 30, such a young man still.
I’m not convinced if that rule had been in place the outcome with Ibe would have been any different. It would just have meant he would still have been hoovered up by one of the big boys before his 18th birthday.
While his girlfriend is obviously the victim here, I do feel so sorry for Ibe. He’s been quite open about his mental health issues ruining his career. Just awful stuff for him given the potential he had.
Magnus Watch: Magnus Westergaard came on in the 84th minute during Valerenga’s 6-1 win over Aalesund.
Thanks for the updates.
His dad won’t be happy with that - should be the first name on the team sheet!
Lost his starting spot and they win 6-1, albeit against poor opposition. Whilst they’re a ‘big’ club in Norway, they’ve been middling for a few seasons so can’t pin it all on Westy. If I can be bothered I might try and dig for some fan opinion.
D’mani Mellor and James Berry both on target for Forest Green against Brizzle Rovers so far this evening.
Not strictly a former player update, but kind of relevant to Magnus watch. I went to Stavanger at the weekend to watch Viking play Sandjefjord. Viking are second in the league but have three games in hand and are only one point behind the leaders. I would say the standard is comparable if not slightly below League One.
Really enjoyed the trip though and thoroughly recommend Stavanger to anyone fancying a weekend break.
Now that’s an away day!
Sounds like a cracking trip.
Could you elaborate on this a bit? Technically is it good, better? Physicality etc?
I dont normally watch these guys. It got reconmended due to my love of the Beast and slip n slides.
Could be an alternative from penalties.
Generally very similar but just not quite as good. Plenty of mucking about at the back followed by the keeper lumping it long. High press from both sides and not much time on the ball. Entertaining, a bit scrappy. I’d happily watch it every week if I lived in Stavanger!
Oh, and refereeing every bit as bad as you see in League One.
