Over 3,000 at Maidenhead, including 800 odd down from Boston. Good game, 3-0, but with Wealdstone being 2-0 up within 20 mins it was only ever going to end one way.
Berkhamsted 5 Flackwell Heath 0
Flackwell Heath’s first season in the Southern League ended today at Broadwater in front of a 1,963 crowd (about 300 from Flackwell) as the home side ran out 5-0 winners in the Division One Central playoff final.
In front of a record crowd at Broadwater the match was quite cagey for the first half-hour. The match began to open up & Flackwell missed a golden chance by hitting the post. Almost immediately Berkhamsted had a counter-attack & took the lead from J J Lacey.
After the break substitute Matt Bateman scored a second with a diving header. Flackwell then committed suicide when top scorer Wiktor Makowski was sent off for a lunging tackle. Berkhamsted were able to attack more & further goals from Lacey, Bateman & Connor Tomlinson sealed a comprehensive victory. Play was disrupted on several occasions as flares were thrown on to the pitch. But nothing could prevent a perfect result for the Comrades.
Anyone who seriously can’t wait to get their football fix, or if you fancy a top-up, might be interested to know the Combined Counties Div 1 kicks-off this Saturday 26 July.
Three local games to choose from, all 3pm:
Chalfont St. Peter v Colliers Wood Utd
Holmer Green v Spartans Youth
Penn & Tylers Green v Sport London e Benfica (exotic!)
The Spartan South Mids also starts on Saturday, and in the Premier Division at 3pm:
Aylesbury Vale Dynamoes v Harlow Town
Risborough Rangers v Biggleswade United
In Combined Counties Div 1 tomorrow evening at 7:45, it’s the big one, Penn & Tylers Green v Holmer Green. Both won on Saturday, Scotty still manager of Holmer.
In CC Prem South tomorrow, the one that catches the eye, for the Isthmian old timers, is Tooting & Mitcham Utd v Corinthian Casuals.
I will be at Winslow Utd v Risborough Rangers in the Spartan Prem.
FT Winslow United 1-0 Risborough Rangers.
The visitors fielded a whole new team after avoiding relegation by a goal difference of one last season, when they fielded 92 different players in all games. They have some big athletic players and made the running early on, Winslow keeper Jake Stronge made a great block in a one on one. Risborough also hit the post but the home team went ahead on the stroke of half-time, Andre Olukunwe coolly slotting home past the keeper.
After the break it was the Jake Stronge show, three quite brilliant saves as Risborough pressed hard but United defended doggedly, helped by some wayward finishing.
Winslow will be grateful for the three points. Last season they finished 10/18 and may find it a bit harder this season. Rangers will be fine once the new team gel. I think the official attendance was 162.
The Olukunmi goal.

Penn and Holmer drew 1-1, Josh Peck put Penn ahead on 55, David Pearce equalised on 81. Att. 217.
Edit. Got that the wrong way round, Peck for Holmer, Pearce for Penn.
Had an eye on the PTGFC v Holmer Green derby whilst I’m on holiday. Thought HG might once again come away with a win from up the road. Probably a good time in the season to have a floodlight issue!
FA Cup EPR results for the Bucks teams.
Ardley United 1-0 Aylesbury United
Aylesbury Vale Dynamos 1-1 Abingdon United
Beaconsfield Town 0-1 Larkhall Athletic
Binfield 4-1 Winslow United
Cinderford Town 0-1 Amersham Town
MK Irish 3-2 Heybridge Swifts
North Leigh 1-2 Risborough Rangers
£1125 for the winners, £375 for the losers. Preliminary Round on 16th August.
And Burnham beat Holyport 3-2.
Thanks @Robin, I keep forgetting Burnham is in Bucks!
Another one I forgot.
Biggleswade United 5-1 Newport Pagnell Town
Last gasp replay win for the Dynamo(e)s last night.
Holmer Green beat Sandhurst 2-0 at home in CC1, in front of a healthy 159, to make it two wins and two draws.
159 - wonder if they had some groundhoppers in?
Holmer usually get 70-80. I imagine a few hoppers and additional locals wanting some football action in favourable nighttime conditions before the autumn/winter chill sets in. Also could’ve been swelled by Sandhurst, no idea what their gates are. There’s a good buzz around Watchet Lane at the moment following a much better campaign last term.
It’s interesting to see the wider ‘trickle down’ effect on attendances as non-league gates do seem to be rising. 354 for an FAC Extra Prelim game seems very high!
Chesham United win 2-1 at Maidenhead
Lovely evening watching Marlow beat Aylesbury United 3-0 last night - having evening games in the summer is so much nicer than mid January! New signing Kwesi Ntim was fantastic, an air of Eze about him.
For those not travelling to Doncaster on Saturday here’s a list of local games if you still fancy your Saturday football fix:
FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND:
Aylesbury Vale Dynamos v Oldland Abbotonians
Marlow v Binfield
Flackwell Heath v Tuffley Rovers
NATIONAL LEAGUE:
Wealdstone v FC Halifax Town
NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH:
Chesham United v Farnborough
Slough Town v Hemel Hempstead
Enjoy whichever game you end up at!
I saw MK Irish lose 2-0 at home to Arlesey Town in the FA Cup. Last season MK beat Arlesey 4-1 and 5-2 on their way to winning the Spartan Premier. Today the lower level visitors were much the better team in the first half, took the lead on 24’ with a possible own goal glancing header, and really could gave been three up. More even after the break, MK had chances to equalise, including hitting the bar, but Arlesey wrapped it up on 83’ for a thoroughly deserved win. There were some verbal afters between the teams on the final whistle. It was good to see that Glyn Creaser is active again and has returned to his coaching role at MK. Crowd was 155.
A decent ground which includes an impressive three row seated stand on the side, the length of the pitch (reminded me of Loakes Park), and a smaller stand opposite.
