I went to watch a 3-3 thriller between Penn and Tylers Green and erstwhile table toppers, PFC Victoria London, in the Combined Counties Division One.
PFC is representative of London’s Polish community and they brought a small but passionate following to this fairly sleepy part of Bucks.
Much like Holmer Green, Penn can offer the simultaneous joy of watching both cricket and football at the same time (sort of), with this afternoon seeing matches going on alongside each other.
Penn struggled to get to grips with the visitors’ intense press, with the lively Serhii Hura helping himself to a first-half hat-trick.
The hosts were still in the game though and went into the break 3-2 down. A much improved second-half performance yielded a stylish equaliser with David Pearce curling in late on to ensure a share of the spoils.
Highlight of the game was Penn veteran Jamie Essex telling an under-par winger to ‘get their head out of Ibiza’. Tenth division football at its finest.

Went to Kidlington v Hilltop in the Combined Counties Prem North.
Scrappy but entertaining game. A lot of fouls but no real needle. Finished 2-2. Knew nothing about Hilltop but seems they’re a Somali ex pat club who groundshare at Hendon.

Do Hilltop still try and play a bit? Really good people at that club, groundshared at Beaconsfield last season.

Not noticeably. They were very quick and caught Kidlington offside numerous times but didn’t notice anyone standing out as above that level.
Flackwell secured a 2-0 win at Soul Tower Hamlets in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
Chesham fell to a 4-1 home defeat to King’s Lynn in a thunder and lightning affected contest. Maidenhead were disappointingly knocked out by Faversham Town (1-0) and Slough drew 1-1 at Welling United.
Further afield, Andy Carroll was sent off on his Dagenham debut in their 1-1 stalemate against Bedford Town and Enfield Town won the derby 3-0 against…Enfield.
In the CCL Division 1, Holmer Green lost 3-1 at home to London Samurai Rovers while Penn beat Bedfont 5-2.
Will do an update around the leagues at some point.

Good luck to Flackwell this afternoon. They host Bracknell Town in the FAC3QR.

As mentioned elsewhere, Flackwell found a late equaliser against Bracknell. 10-man Slough secured their passage to the final qualifying round with a 2-1 win at Bedfont Sports.
In the CCL Prem North, Amersham bloodied the noses of table-topping Burnham with a 1-0 win.
In the division below, Holmer Green have gone off the boil and fell to a 1-0 defeat at Colliers Wood. Penn and Chalfont played out a 2-2 draw.
Flackwell play Bracknell in an FA Cup replay tomorrow night.
Bracknell still play at Sandhurst and have spent a fortune on the ground for a Level 7 club (£6.5 Million). It’s a decent little ground with a small bar and some food stalls. Likely to be around 6-700 in attendance.
Parking can be difficult and it’s a 5-10 minute walk even if you are close’ish to the ground.
I can remember going to Bracknell in the mid 1970s to watch Wycombe. I assume in the B&B Cup. I remember it as a tidy little ground. Is it the same place?
I also remember it had a very strange (for the time) KO time - something to do with the 3-day week
They play in Sandhurst now, the old ground in Bracknell town centre is no more. Has permission for housing

That’s a real shame. I was there several times as an Hellenic Official and loved going there. I thought they had recently put a 4g pitch on that site and levelled the pitch (there was a slope similar to Penn’s ground before their work)
The planning permission was granted 4-5 years ago but the type and amount of housing was argued in court last year and they had to lower the size of the development.
The owner of Bracknell owns Larges as well as the cricket pitch next door. He’s trying to move the cricket team away from the town too so he can develop the whole site.
Good luck to Holmer Green tonight against that outfit from the north.
Holmer Green 1-0 down as the second half gets underway.
Flackwell 0-0 at HT in their cup Replay at Bracknell.

Wow. Trip to Maldon & Tiptree for the winners. Winning would match the Heathens’ previous best runs (FAC4QR) of the early noughties.
