It’s been a tame fizzling out of the season. 5 defeats in 7 games.
We’d obviously have taken a safe top half finish after the Dodds start but that little period we threw away arguably 8 points in a few games (Exeter, Bolton, Reading) does make you think what could have been.
Exactly that - as soon as Boyd Munce got injured, I knew the second half would be tough without him as he was running the show, Bradford are a physical team and our players had zero protection from the useless Ref - but a few light weight tackles from us, they fall over and he can’t wait to give them a free kick - Quiturnas injury was from us over watering the pitch at half time, he down awkwardly in a really good position, but I think the damage was done when he tried to sprint back to defend. I didn’t see how Vidigal got injured but it is really killing us every week !
Also - how were Bradford defenders allowed to continuously rugby tackle our players and constantly get away with it ??
Duff put that dreadful keeper who didn’t want to play for us into the side. He also decided to slim down the squad in Jan - so if it’s injuries that are killing us now, he’s partly responsible for not having enough replacements in place.
I think our current demise can be summed up by one fact….we’re soft as . We had exactly the same problems last season at this time when bigger physical teams like Wrexham and Charlton showed up and bullied us off the park. The same is happening this season.
Whilst at times they have showed flashes of what they can offer, signing players like Junior, Mullins, Huggins, Allen, Harris, Henderson just don’t toughen us up one bit. Casey is the one who seems to have a bit of steel and edge and his absence is really killing us right now.
The one thing I am a lot more confident of this year unlike last is that we have the right manager who can address this situation in the summer, if he is given the opportunity to be central to any personnel changes.
We have the fancy finishings, we now to build the solid foundations which means the house isn’t going to collapse like it has done over the last couple of seasons.
Injuries, Bolton broke their hearts, Will Norris, too many mediocre players getting fat off Lommy loans, Duff’s subs, jinkyism, yella bellied, Will Norris, the price of Rebellion, it’s all Dodds’ fault, Data Dan, Data Dan’s weird mate, Fink, the list goes on.
Pick your combo of choice or add your own reasons for our lacklustre lurch to midtable. Some good, some bad, some mad this season.
I was behind the goal for that move, I couldn’t believe Woodrow didn’t go for it himself, but Lowe did seem a bit off a pace, he seem to be day dreaming a lot and was constantly second to the ball - I wouldn’t say that’s down to Duff though
Why were we not the same team after the Bolton defeat? A lot of answers have to come from the army of coaches employed and the management team that employed them. We have been flirting with the play offs for weeks and to go out of it with such a whimper shows a lack of resolve, determination, spirit and competency.
I knew things weren’t going to work out after I spent five minutes arguing with this bloke in my seat only to find out that I was in the wrong row , anyhow we played some class football in the first half a bunch of shit happened and we walked out with a loss . Anyhow Duff has saved us from the shit show that was Doddsball and needs Rice to give him a telephone, a tube of Pringles and a pile of money.
I think Junior and Vidigal were both taken off because they had cramp. This is prob due to their lack of minutes / match practice. I don’t think we should be too worried about them.
With respect, which position have we slimmed down on that we are now weak in? I’d rather see Henderson or Mullins attempt to play on the wings rather than Tilley!
I think you look at the pre-billions Wycombe through rose tinted glasses.I remember some very poor seasons when the players looked disinterested and lacking in fight. I remember fans in the terrace having a heated exchange with Bayo and Scowen demanding to know why the team were not trying.
I doubt there is a player in that dressing room who was not devastated after todays result.
There are some excellent players in that team and there is the backbone of a promotion pushing team with 4-5 good signings in the summer.
To try and write them off as lacking in character and this being the result of corporate ownership is a lazy argument in my opinion and just full of spite.
