Sunday has given me a decent chunk of hope back. Come on Wycombe.

A long and eventful season all comes down to this.

My head can’t ignore Charlton’s home form and our awful record against the Top 6 teams this year. My heart is adamant we’re going to win this on penalties.

COME ON WYCOMBE!!!

Well we know that it’ll be Leyton Orient waiting for whoever wins at Wembley.

Come on Wycombe! Sunday was an improvement from the previous months, now its time to push on and find our form from earlier this season!

Really lovely note from Jack Grimmer via email this morning.

Good morning!

We – the players – just wanted to say a massive thank you for your support throughout the whole season and for being part of what I’m sure will be a bouncing away end at The Valley tonight.

I know it’s an awkward kick-off time for some and it might not be the easiest place to get to on a Thursday night, but we’re Wycombe Wanderers and sometimes we do things the hard way! That’s why your commitment and dedication is so appreciated by us all and we pledge to give absolutely everything we’ve got to give you lots to celebrate tonight and secure our place in the final at Wembley.

It has been an incredible season in many ways and we can all be proud of the effort it’s taken to get us to where we are today. But we’re not finished yet. Tonight is a huge challenge and a huge opportunity - one we are going to grab with both hands.

You have a huge part to play in the stands in what I’m sure will be an amazing atmosphere, and please stay with us all through the night. There’ll be times when we’re up against it and maybe have our backs to the wall, and that’s when we all need to dig in and find the resilience that Wycombe Wanderers has become famous for.

We’ve had some special, special nights in my six years at the club so far and together we can make some more amazing memories at The Valley tonight.

I’m so proud to be captain of your wonderful football club and leading the team out each week is a massive honour. Doing it at Wembley would be the biggest privilege.

We can be heroes, all of us, together.

See you tonight.

Love,
Jack

Jack Grimmer was the right choice to replace Jacobson as Wycombe Captain

I think Jack has been brilliant since Dodds came in. He’s really led by example on the pitch and has said the right things at the right time in public. I’m sure he must he a great influence on the squad behind closed doors.

The dream would be for him to get the winner on 120 mins.

We arent winning. I know we arent winning. Qe have no chance if winning. Its already over.

We may though, might we?

This is a truly wonderful message.

I really felt Wycombe had lost their way towards the end of the regular season. We had lost all values and identity.

But this play-off campaign has shown (so far) we still know how to be Wycombe.

Jack Grimmer has stepped up. On the pitch he was magnificent on Sunday. Off it he’s been inspirational.

Whatever happens tonight, so much goodwill has been restored.

Would have loved to have been there on Sunday, and tonight, but illness has laid me low so it will be in the excellent company of Phil for me this evening.

I have two worries for tonight. First that Jones will have seen how we played in the first leg and will have a plan to adapt. He’s a good coach, and they won’t make the same mistakes twice. Second is that I don’t know if we have the energy and the bench depth to go at them quite as hard physically for a second game in a row (especially in midfield and especially without Scowen). I worry if we do that, they’ll hold us at arms length for an hour and then win the game when we tire. The trouble is, if we don’t get stuck into them, I think they’ll win comfortably. Who’d be a manager, eh?

Get well soon Glenny.

Just set off from a slightly chilly Yorkshire. Already regretting my decision to go with the ‘Geordie bare chest and shorts’ look today.

@eric_plant These days are always impossible aren’t they? Can’t focus on anything for more than 5 minutes without my mind returning to the football.

We’re truly blessed to have had so many days like this over the last 10 years.

We have to keep going even when the tank is empty. That’s the place where winners are made. Fortune will favour the brave. If we just try and defend our box and concede possession, we’ll get our arses kicked. We’ve got to rough them up and get right in their faces, like we did last week. Then get the ball in for the King when the chance comes. They are definitely beatable. Of course if they are brilliant and blow us away, you just have to hold your hands up. I think the senior pros have had some kind of ‘clear the air’ meeting with Dodds, as the time for BS has long gone, it’s all on this. As Gaz might have said ‘control can do one’, it’s all about guts now.

Kone has gone nine games without a goal. No striker wants to make that 10 :folded_hands:

Agree, I have no idea what to expect tonight or what the ideal plan should be. My head says that Charlton will have too much for us. But my heart is willing them to be crushed by the weight of expectation in the stands and for us to secure a seemingly implausible victory. How we do that…answers on a postcard. The Sunderland-Cov tie showed you don’t need to dominate for large periods to win. And Orient looked spent and were fortunate not to lose once Stockport had equalised but still found a way. Argh.

Luckily for you i consulted the I-Ching and got the following reading

35. Progress
Progress.
The Marquis of Kang made use of given horses.
They multiplied to a great number.
Every day they mated three times during the daytime.

Which means we’ll get to Wembley by making the most of any opportunities.
