Match Day Thread : Charlton (Play-offs second leg)

“None of it makes any sense”. “Fudge up.”

This is exactly what we’re dealing with now. On multiple fronts. The potent mix of hubris and incompetence.

Bloomfield is in the rear view mirror now, that debate has been done to death. Time for new battles.

I think Dan Rice’s got a Gasroom account.

Sorry to inform you but unfortunately there are a number of posters who want to keep the Bloomfield debate running and running. It’s not going away, especially as we haven’t been promoted.

I find it astonishing anyone would now not accept that Matt was effectively constructively dismissed.
As I’ve said before, I heard rumblings mid December of what was going to happen and didn’t believe them only for them to become an awful reality about three weeks later.
I am genuinely concerned for the future of our club

Me? Im not sure ive said anything pro Dan Rice.

Well I for one am still going round in circles debating the reasons about Brian Lee leaving.

Unlike most on here, I’m only in my second full season of supporting WWFC.

I started in Feb 2023, just before GA left the club to join QPR. At that point, we were in 7th place on a run of five consecutive wins, pushing for a playoff place. MB took over, and we finished mid-table.

The 2023/24 season saw us have a terrible start, and a much improved finish, ending up 10th in the table.

This season, we had a fantastic first half, sitting in 2nd or even 1st place for most of it. Then the ‘management’ contrived to leave MB with no option but to leave, and brought in a new head coach with no real experience of the job. And it showed in the results, culminating in limping out of contention without a bang, just a whimper.

This was when, according to some, we had our largest and best ever playing squad.

Is it just me, or is it common in football for managers to leave / get sacked when their teams are on a successful run?

Back to the game… McCleary absolutely has to score that chance, doesn’t he? It was a good block from their defender but he shouldn’t be given a chance to keep it out.

Watching their goal back from this angle (https://x.com/CAFCofficial/status/1923143070687584641?t=X7mnFchknFBorjs8Mrh86w&s=19) shows that Franco should’ve done so much better. Bradley effectively leaves the ball for him assuming that he’s coming to claim, he stops on his heels and shirks the challenge. Jones was ultimately braver than he was. Really poor. I think that’s the last time we’ll see him in a Wycombe shirt.

It’s common for them to leave, uncommon for them to get sacked. Hence why this kiddies’ scout we have for a “chairman” couldn’t sack him and had to simply make his life so miserable that he was compelled to leave.

Even worse from this angle by the way, he’s turned his back on the challenge. https://x.com/SkyBetLeagueOne/status/1923158372804661344?t=ZT1OsmfR5VKlmDE2f4auEA&s=19

The Franco Norris debate may be settled over the summer.
Norris v George is a bit easier to side

Kiddies scout. Interesting terminology

Bottled.

I imagine Bloomfield will offer a deal for Sonny to return to Luton and he would take it.

His remit will be promotion and Sonny is clearly a promotion material type player. I’d have said the same for Scowen too had he not picked up the injury and I wouldn’t be surprised if moves were made for Low, Harvie and Kone from Luton.

Also Dodds is head coach, so can’t imagine he has much say in transfers. Interesting to see what Excel says we need to go one better next season

Easy for me to say in retrospect, but surely he just has to march towards the ball, make any kind of clear contact and win a foul.

In the end he did none of those things. Sky caught Leahy giving Rav a big telling off which tells you where the players felt the error was.

Mind you, Reach also basically didn’t challenge Lloyd for the initial ball.

Reach was on the wrong side of Lloyd which was poor, but the error was all Franco’s. Disappointing.

Football is a game simply won by scoring more goals than the opposition. Charlton did that, we did not.

I felt we played well over both legs, and generally a lot better compared to the final three games of the league season, but it just was not enough. Who is at blame for that, we may never truly know. However I am proud of the team for giving it their all in difficult circumstances and I am not too disappointed in the result. I think nights like last night have shown how much calmer I have become in regards to matches over the last few years.

All we can do now is give everyone a much needed rest, and get ready to go again next season. Do not lose the faith.

Charlton fan…

Firstly, didn’t know about the abuse and pyro’s given to you until reading on here. I take my 7 year old to games and not sure how I’d react if that happened and also would probably stop my daughter wanting to come to more games so I hope they get dealt with appropriately.

Such weird behaviour but it’s more likely when you get a load of people turning up that don’t usually come to games.

I’ve got a mate who is a Wycombe fan so usually hope you do well.

2 horrible games of football. I thought if anybody was going to nick it was probably going to be you. Didn’t think either team deserved to win or lose. We have quite an average team with a few star players (Jones, Ramsay, Small and Godden).

Was happy when Fred came off in the first leg and happier that he wasn’t starting last night.

I think the only way we going to score was a mistake like that from the keeper because Bradley was immense.

Your support was also very good for 1,600 or so fans. Heard you from the other end a good few times.

Definitely. The Charlton fans I’ve come across over the years have been some of the best. Big events always attract the fuckwits.
