The most common reaction from players to that kind of public calling out is not a good one.
Especially as they’ve done nothing different to when he was fairly happy. Not sure it’s fair to do a 180 in reaction when the players have just continued to do the same thing as before.
The interview is a bit of an about turn from the previous week’s “I’m not concerned. The lads are bouncing into training and love the new style we’re trying to implement.”
Never too high, never too low, Michael.
Oh well, good to have a quick turnaround. Let’s see what the reaction and body language is like on Tuesday.
Again, I’m being very harsh here, but how can you command respect as a leader if you look like a sack of potatoes on the sideline in ill-fitting merchandise? How many managers in the EFL do you see more poorly presented than our manager?
Well Jack was saying the same things so its not only Dodds. Personally I was glad to hear it as I thought that he had been sugar coating everything before. Perhaps he is not so soft and buddy buddy as I thought. Gareth had to go from mate to boss to sort things out. I would expect the players to respond in the right way and get stuck in more in the next match.
He’s been the wrong appointment from the start. Why cockboy Rice appointed him we’ll know. Its another f#ck up on his part. The football under Dodds is dreadful, we dont score, easy to score against and never win.
Things are going the exact same way they went at Sunderland with Dodds never getting any results and suddenly blaming the players. If the ‘project’ is genuinely about setting up an academy for Kazakh football then he’s going to be here for a long time. But if the ‘project’ is really lommy giving his son-in-law a wedding present which got him out the house then Dodds is on very thin ice.
It was noticeable yesterday that we were a good 3 or 4 minutes later on to the pitch after half time than Doncaster. I did wonder whether that things were being said in the dressing room…
But then we started the second half exactly as we finished the first so I just assumed they’d all dozed off and took a little longer to wake up
His record taken over the full tenure makes quite a gruesome sight. Reading the tea leaves, it seems that the OG are beginning to get a little bit concerned. It all depends upon how ‘the group’ react to the harsher tone from Doddsy. These next 2 games will tell us a lot. There were some impressive passing moments yesterday, and you don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water. MD says he wants to implement a style that will be sustainable in the Champ, but you have to get there first. He’s going to need some more striker options available to do that, let’s see if the OG are prepared to back him further in this window. Only results will give him the time he needs to implement his ‘style’. I liked his post match interview, just a shame we haven’t seen this from him before.
I’ve wanted Dodds out for some time now but can’t decide whether this is the right time or not.
I think yesterday was actually the closest a Dodds team has got to that of a Bloomfield team last season. By that I mean we had a good balance towards playing both short and long ball. Quite ironic that their goal came from trying to pass it out. Yesterday was certainly not a fine performance but to me it looked more like a Wycombe side that had enjoyed fairly recent successes.
So I was especially surprised and baffled by Dodds’ post-match comments. You have to question whether he really has a clue or not with that interview. The players are certainly not playing for him and there appears to be a disconnection.
I think Dodds should be given this week and see what happens. But he looks like a man on the brink and I’d be surprised if the board have not already sounded out alternatives.
Aaron Morley had everything, one of the most impressive midfielders we’ve had in the last 20 years. Given that money doesn’t seem to be an issue, not getting him in is one of the OGs biggest mistakes. Seeing him on Bolton’s bench makes it worse.
If he called out individual players I would agree with you.
But if he has said in public what he has said to them in private, and they haven’t been doing what the manager has asked, then they should have nothing to complain about. It’s a consistent message and they need to take responsibility whether they like it or not.
Giving them a bollocking in private and overly protecting them in public is as damaging as praising them behind closed doors and throwing them insert the bus in public.
I have been actually slightly worried when Dodds has said after the first losses that they have been coming into training happy. I want them coming in on a Sunday/Monday pissed off they lost and ready to work harder to improve.
Just had a look at Ainsworth post match interview after their draw at Tranmere yesterday. Gillingham are still unbeaten in the league since he took over The interview just oozes with passion and commitment and praise for his side running through brick walls.
This is the problem. It’s not consistent. For eight months he’s excused some utter shite (and in some cases talked positovely about it) , so to actually see a slight improvement (from what people have said) and then go ballistic seems odd to me.
If he’d apologised to the fans after the 1-0 win over Stevenage or the 4-0 defeat to Charlton then I’d have applauded it. Those were both genuinely unacceptable performances.
But it’s a weird message to send when we were no better or worse than in the first two games. Games that he’s said were OK on the whole.
