Match Day Thread: Doncaster 16th Aug 2025

I watched the interview again this morning and it does sound like ‘I’ve had a warning shot in terms of our performances’ means he’s been told things need to get better, rather than what i initially assumed. That would explain his demeanour.

It’s inevitable. Make your peace with it now.

And of that’s the case then I’d be very unhappy as a player in that dressing room.

We’re playing the way he’s asked us to for 8 months, and that he’s gone out week after week and defended, and now he gets told he’s it’s not good enough he blames it on us?

That can get right in the bin.

We’ve been poor for months. The players have to take some of the blame for that. Bravery is exactly what we lack.

Alex Ferguson saying the Aberdeen players were a disgrace a few minutes after they had won the Scottish Cup is still the benchmark here.

I expect im boring people on here with the Rice digs but… Under his leadership as such, he hasn’t got anything right on the pitch. I cant think of a single improvement made to the squad or staff.

The lowball Morley offer that was always going to be rejected, who is arguably one of the best midfielders we’ve had ill add, to then spend nearly a million on a flop Dane and nearly half a million on Berry is criminal. It screams “Morley was a Bloomfield signing i know better” mentality.

Regardless of what’s happening off it, he needs to be held accountable. When Dodds name was first mentioned, people on here instantly pointed to his record when he’d stepped in at Sunderland.

Rice has f’kd us. The amount of money he’s spent on tosh is also criminal. The sooner he’s gone the better. Absolute fraud of a bloke

So why has it taken until a nondescript performance leading to a draw when there have been numerous utter shockers in there to finally call them out?

The players aren’t idiots. They know it’s been shite for virtually his entire tenure. They did the ultra defensive flat back 5 stuff - against their better judgement - that he asked for and defended.

Then it looks marginally better, albeit not good enough, and he flies off the handle?

Looking at Gareth’s post match interview after Gillinghams draw at Tranmere full of passion
God I miss those days

It’s been consistent since the start of the season in terms of bravery on the ball.

Bravery in this case is looking to pass the ball forward and not backwards.

The goal yesterday, for example, yes was a mistake by one player, but it came about because we were too slow in getting the ball forward and passing round their press and going backwards/ to the keeper.

There’s only so much he can say about being braver without losing his shit. Hell, the supporters have been pissed off everytime the ball is passed backwards as well.

If we win the next two games he’ll get some breathing space and a bit of a confidence boost all round. If not I fear the worst.

I do worry about that the lack of aggression and physicality we all know is needed to do well in this league though.

Just read, last season the highest finishing position for a team with 1 point after 3 games was Blackpool who finished 9th.

Spot on

Because I assume that he’s been told it’s not good enough by the higher ups.

But the highest finishing position for a team with zero points was 5th or 4th - Orient anyway. They lost 4 in a row. So, its not a stat that overly means anything.

He’s also been told by us lower downs that it’s not good enough!

Manager press conferences or pre or post game interviews are generally meaningless and usually boring.

But hes been talking of bring brave on the ball for ages, obviously says it to the players aswell. So I don’t blame him being angry if its not happening.

But, just because he gives bland statements after games doesn’t mean he isnt laying into them in private.

What was the Morley lowball bid out of interest?

Hadn’t heard the figure.

I suspect that Dodds if he doesn’t get positive results in the next two games, will be in trouble. Comes across as a nice genuine guy but can he manage/ coach. Current evidence says no. Cannot believe that Rice will not want to protect his own arse and that of Stockwell who has recommended and recruited the players. If I was MD, I would be asking questions.
