Well done boys, that felt like our Wycombe again this evening.
A great cup night under the lights. Love the way Grimmer and Leahy continue to make their detractors look like clueless idiots.
Anders is the real deal at centre half. And Mullins and and Henderson were very very good.
Lots to be encouraged by, and a great atmosphere as well. Fair play to the Valley Terrace - provided noise and encouragement from start to finish.
Real coming-of-age performance for this squad. So so much credit for the defensive performance of the whole XI - there was some real quality on the pitch for Fulham tonight and we nullified them for long periods. (Josh King was very good for them - doubt heâll be at Fulham for long.) Particular shout out for Norris too - I thought his time was up when he was dropped at the start of the season but he looks so much more assured now.
Huge credit to Michael Duff. Heâs improved us immensely and there is real connection between players and fans again. This may yet still be a special season.
Brilliant night, went toe to toe with a very good side.
Pens is a lottery but we can hold our heads high, thought we were excellent.
Henderson is some player. Fred showed how fit he is and the amount of defensive work he got through was incredible. To be fair that could be said of about every one of them.
Duff has given us a team to be proud of, the old Wycombe is back! COYB!
There were one or two opportunities on the break. A little bit more calmness in the final third might have brought us another goal. All in good time.
If weâre picking their best performers, I thought Bassey was head and shoulders above anyone else. Very good player
Hearing and seeing lot of noise and frustration from fans about their goalkeeper off the line for the penalties. Canât say I noticed it. Has anyone got definitive proof of the keeper off their line?
Watched it in slow mo. Clutching at straws for me. They were just really poor penalties. Sounds obvious but you cannot miss two in sudden death and think you are hard done by!
Separate point. I am likely to be in the minority here. Apologies in advance to anyone who grossly disagrees. I do not wish to cause offence on what was a very good night for the club on the whole.
Throwing an empty plastic bottle at officials is very poor behaviour. It warrants a warning at least and possibly a game or two ban. However, hearing 50+ of the terrace chant âyouâre just a sh** Akinfenwaâ at Adama Traore is more disappointing and the sort of nonsense youâd never ever get aimed at white players. Debatably racist. Definitely stupid. Iâd argue itâs worse than throwing an empty plastic bottle 20+ yards at a linesman knowing full well itâs got about 0.1% of hitting them hard enough to cause anything but the mildest of bruises. Yes all fans have idiots. But weâve got a real crop of losers at the moment in the terrace. Unsure if itâs just because Iâm miserable and fast approaching 30 or if itâs a socially stunted Covid generation.
Bassey is a magnificent defender. Made all the more impressive considering he seems to play in shorts about 4 times the size of everyone elseâs.
I think youâre being harsh here imo. The âshit Akinfenwaâ chant was likely based on the fact that Adama Traore also bodybuilds in the same way that Bayo does.
There are plenty of chants all season round of âyouâre just a shit Andy Carrollâ to any white player with long hair, for example. I donât think there was anything remotely racist about it at all. Unimaginative and boring chanting? Yes, but not offensive.
Not sure if I agree that you donât see this aimed at white players - Iâm sure Iâve heard any lanky striker with a ponytail being called a "sh*t Andy Carrollâ for example. But I fully agree it was moronic and unfunny. Adama Traore is a totally different player to Akinfenwa so it just didnât work on any level. A very odd chant to come up with IMO.
Totally forgot the unimaginative Andy Carroll version. I take back my original comment. Just really poor creativity, rather than anything malicious then. Thatâs reassuring. Thanks.
Youâre just a shit Andy Carroll is generally chanted at people who look like a shit Andy Carroll.
They are generally white players.
Sorry for the repetition.
Good night for the club overall. This season needed a performance like that to show the fans, and perhaps some of the players themselves, that we do have the fighting qualities required to deliver even when weâre under pressure.
Iâm sure Duff will be full of praise, but will also rightly point out that itâs easy to get up for a game like that against quality opposition. The challenge now is to take that performance level and take it into every game. If we can show that sort of intensity, bravery and commitment we can be extremely competitive in this division. The players need to see tonightâs effort as par, not as a one-off.
I thought everyone played well but Mullins and Henderson particularly impressed in midfield. The former is still a work in progress but Iâm sure will develop into a brilliant player. His footwork in tight spaces and intelligence receiving the ball is absolutely outstanding.
Likewise, I think Taylor and Hagelskjaer deserve plenty of praise. We had a lot of defending to do and they both put in solid performances, despite both having had a pretty patchy record with us thus far.
whatever
Not sure what shouting âCheating fâin c***sâ at bemused Fulham coach drivers in the car park was meant to achieve but I assume the lad involved can sleep soundly having taken on the FulhamâŚ
One of the great Wycombe nights. Fantastic crowd and a great 90 minutes. Thank goodness we went 1-0 up as if we had gone 1-0 down the atmosphere would have been flat.
Access to the ground was terrible, driving into pre booked parking took an hour from the M40, how we will we manage in the Championship? Thank heavens for Rob Couhigâs new road.
I was very disappointed myself. The gasroom had assured me that the appallingly high prices for a Tuesday night game in the holidays in a third rate competition against underwhelming opposition would result in a poor turn out to see a trouncing which would deter any fans who did turn up from ever coming again.
Instead there were people and cars everywhere.
