Match Day Thread: Gillingham 11th Nov 2025 (EFL Trophy)

Notice how certain phrases come out of both the managers and players mouths in interviews:

“Doesn’t matter if you’re playing in front of 50 or 50,000 fans” was a phrase both Duff and Fink came out with in seperate interviews.

Tells me there is consistent messaging that’s not only being listened to but actually bought into.

The whole move for that Fink goal was very slick indeed - I think he’ll be knocking in a few in the league by spring

Yeah, English mother and grew up in Switzerland. I think this is the first time he’s lived in England.

That’s a little bit the same with Junior. He was outstanding last night but who do you drop between Fred & Bell, it’s a really tough call

It was only a couple of months ago we were in an awful position with Dodds and we just didn’t know where or when any form of consistent result was going to come.

And in a blink of an eye, we’re now debating what talented footballers we have who can’t get a game because the ones in the first XI are playing too well!!

Funny old game :joy:

A loan move to Gillingham awaits?

Also how awful our recruitment was over the summer and they are actually starting to hit their stride! Casey was written off but after the last weekend’s game, he’s won a few around. Anders going strength to strength, the midfielders are starting to work well and gel together and our “panic” attacking loans are performing too

No idea. He looked composed on and off the ball and physically strong. He definitely needs regular minutes, and he isn’t going to get that with us at the moment.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Skura finds his way to Gillingham in Jan in one form or another

The biggest thing I’ve noticed in the last few games - the players are smiling. Yes it’s easy to smile when you’re winning, but they definitely seem like they are enjoying Duff’s Wycombe as a few have alluded to here with consistent sound bites from interviews with Sam, Matt and Darcy.

Winning solves everything.

I watched Arthur Gregory in the Behind Closed Doors match against Spurs and was amazed to see a 17 year old showing such strength, skill, pace and confidence. He reads the game very well as well (clumsy sentence construction there!). He’ll clearly be a strong contender for left back in the first team before too long.

I think only the following are above us in the league and into the knock out rounds: Bradford, Bolton, Stevenage, Huddersfield, Barnsley and Rotherham

I’ve just watched the interviews with MD and Brad Fink and you’re absolutely spot on there. Mannerisms, unfalteringly straight talking intelligent delivery and similar brows (!). Could be father and son.

I still find it hard to believe he’s only 22.

All beatable?!

Do we know when the draw is for the next round? Is it still North & South divided until QF or SF?

English is the international language in the west and only second to chinese on the planet of course. We don’t need to speak French or German as much as they need English. Plus his mum is English and he has family in Nottingham.

Thursday afternoon, and we’re in the Southern Section draw A Runners Up pot, meaning a trip to one of Cardiff, Bristol Rovers, Northampton or Swindon.
