Match Day Thread: Luton (H) 14th Mar 2026

Duff interview by the club was 2 mins ….that is disgraceful and shows lack of respect for fans , they need to remember that fans play a huge part for the club

Continuing the discussion from Match Day Thread: Luton (H) 14th Mar 2026:

if he wasn’t asked the questions what is he meant to do , he no doubt didn’t want to slag off the defenders because he cant can he. Stuck with Taylor for at least 2-3 more games

I think we need to give credit to Luton today. They were very defensively strong - especially their number 16, who won absolutely everything against Lowe and Fink.

We need to find a way to play Hendo, Morley and Boyd Munce together. It wasn’t the latter’s best game for us today but all three ooze class.

Finally, I hate to slag off referees. They have a tough job to do and let’s be honest most decisions are pretty subjective (subjectively that was a pen on Fred in stoppage time!), but him blowing up on 98:07 after awarding a MINIMUM of 8 minutes and holding his watch up to the air (to indicate it was stopped) as Luton were slowly getting back to kick off after we scored, was objectively unacceptable. It’s a crazy mistake to make and credit to Norris if he did give him two barrels worth!

Poor today. Would of been different if Harris took one of those early chances.

Disappointing to concede 2 from corners. But even more disappointed with the way the 2nd half went. It felt flat, pre season / end of season nothing game in the sun.

Great goal at the end, bur credit to Luton.

Still not out of the play off mix, need a big performance on Tuesday and i think we’ll see one.

Looking forward to it, first game in a couple of years ill be going, but without any kids!

Centre half pairing today wasn’t good enough on the ball, nor dominant enough in the air without it. With Casey and Hagelskjaer we’ve been able to control the flow of the game in possession. Taylor is abject on and off the ball and would probably not look out of place on the rye. I’d rather have Grimmer there and Huggins at right back.

Norris forced to kick long more often as a result. Lowe was pretty poor and then we were nowhere near the knock downs into midfield. As a result we rarely got going on the ball.

Giving them a two goal lead meant Luton were able to wind the clock down and turn it into a scrappy game, with a weak referee doing nothing to get the game moving. They looked a really poor side so it’s a very disappointing defeat.

Boyd-Munce and Morley did their best to get us playing but it wasn’t enough.

I’m a bit disappointed in Mullins as well. He’s such a fantastic player but keeps losing the ball in bad areas and too often has the ball punched on the turn. He’s great turning out of tight spaces and that can be the thing that opens team up but he’s got to learn when to try it and when we just need to retain the ball.

Subs could have come earlier. Vidigal looked decent. Picked up some good positions but was often ignored. Quitirna also did OK. Fink did alright but always seems to get game time when we’re playing dreadfully.

Poor performance today, we were miles off and only really came alive in the closing stages after the subs. Luton just seem to be one if those teams who bring out the worst in us. That said, it’s clear the injuries to Anders and Casey have had a big impact. Both are comfortable bringing the ball out of defence, something we didn’t see at all from Taylor or Allen and I think that left us going long on more occasions than usual.

Referee completely lost the plot in the closing minutes. Surely that was a penalty on Fred? Anyone see it any different? Even the Luton players seemed surprised it wasn’t given. A goal there and I actually think we may have got a point, as Luton who seemed solid throughout, suddenly panicked and were all over the place when Vidigal and Junior came on. And how on earth could that final whistle on 98mins be justified. He’d actually warned Luton about their time wasting in injury time and then added nothing on at all!

Today was the first back-to-back league defeats under Michael Duff.
Today was Luton Town’s first league win in seven matches.
Today was Luton Town’s first away league win in eleven matches.
Today was Connor Taylor’s first league start in 19 matches (a 1-0 home defeat to Plymouth).

Without Woodrow I think we’d have missed the penalty anyway.

My memory isn’t quite what it once was. Maybe you could help me? Who was it who said “We will smash Luton to pieces on Saturday”?

That was horrible. It’s rare that all 11 players look poor collectively and individually. Looked like a relegation side today and we know they’re much better than that. We wondered if the Bolton game would affect them, and it looks like it really did. Low energy levels across the pitch. Bad day at the office. It happens - must bounce back to show there isn’t a mentality issue.

When was Taylor last in in a winning 11?

Couple of promising moves before their first goal but then we completely fell away after their first. Actually thought start was quite chaotic and if we’d have scored first then Luton would have fallen away similarly.

Very much felt like an early season performance where confidence fragile and conceding first goal felt like game was over. The settled centre back pairing has made a huge difference until the injuries.

Was very impressed with how their centre back no 16 kept Lowe out of the game.

Disappointing afternoon, will be interesting to see what happens on Tuesday - slightly concerned we might get hammered after today, but hopefully we can bounce back. Would like to see more of Vidigal as well as Junior.

Whoever it was I wish he’d been right.

Oops

Michael Duff, in his post-match interview, said it very much is a mentality issue.

6 goals conceded against Luton this season and we’ve gifted them every single one

The last time we won a match with Connor Taylor starting was against Gillingham in the B-team trophy on 11th November 2025.
