The worst side I’ve seen at Adams Park this season was us under Dodds.
yesterday performance was a really good one and we controlled the game , we were the much better team, problem is we dont start with a natural 9 or 11.
my player ratings
Norris - 6 did not have much if anything to do
Grimmer - 6-solid but did not get forward enough
Casey- 8 - impressive again
Allen - 7 - did well
Harvie - 8.5 - Great crosses
CBM - 9 - MOM and impressing massively
Morley - 8 - great passer and give us so much control.
Harris - 5 - offered very little apart from running
Fred- 7.5 - non stop running and always a threat
Junior - 6.5 - good but needs to speed up the play
Woodrow - 4- offered zero and missed a sitter
Subs
Mullins - 7 - improved us
Fink 5.5 - little to no service
Huggins -7 - great attacking intent
Leahy - 6 - not enough time to get involved.
Think that’s a bit harsh on my ‘attitude’. I said I feel the playoffs might be out of reach, which given we are eight points adrift in February isn’t exactly Chairboys80 levels of negativity.
I like the vast majority of this squad, I like our manager, I can see what are are trying to do on the pitch. Feel like our dreadful start in the league may leave us just short, but of course there’s a chance and I hope more than anything we do it. Huge factor will be a left winger on Monday, and if Lowe proves to be the answer.
You really don’t like Woodrow @Chairboys80
No Leahy today. Only Duff and whichever player he decides to bait everyone about available for his insights.
I thought Boyd-Munce was really good yesterday. Even watching the highlights back again you can see that he was creative and dangerous as well as solid defensively.
I really think Boyd-Munce is blooming now he is getting a run in the team and he is quickly becoming a fans favourite. Along with Morley and Henderson it is becoming clear that Boyd-Munce will form a really formidable midfield trio.
Boyd Munce has been superb for some time, a midfield with him Morley and Hendo, and either Harvey/Allen or new left sided attacker, will be the foundations that a quality side can emerge from .
Leahy is a good squad player not a starter
do you think he is good enough? he has had 1 good game since August
Is this another Rice signing who has come good ?
I think many posters need to lay off @Chairboys80 a bit. His post you have replied to is, for me, absolutely spot on. Not overly negative and is generally fair.
I think his fixation on Leahy is just frustration that he’s not quite good enough to be the key player in midfield for a promotion chasing team - that is fair, it’s just the repetitiveness that gets to everyone.
Same with Woodrow, he just isn’t a centre forward and will not score the goals we need. He has a bit of a blind spot for the good knitting together play that Woodrow does, but he is right that Woodrow is certainly not the answer to our goalscoring problems.
We have made 12 permanent signings, including Morley.
Out of those 12, I think Tilley has been a total dud. For whatever reason.
Im not writing off Van Sas or Fink as yet, due to age mainly.
The 3rd choice keeper is doing what a 3rd choice keeper does.
The rest have all been in or around the first team, and gave generally worked out. Taylor has slipped to 3/4th choice CB, but he is being used, and just realised is only 23.
The signings got some stick, but its hard to disagree that overall they have turned out to be pretty good.
Don’t forget James Berry. Pound for pound the worst Wycombe signing of all time.
I was just looking at the summer into this window.
I have no idea on James Berry, I presume he has some sort of talent, but some have said attitude.
I’d compartmentalise the signings a little. We had a squad that had taken us to the auto spots by Xmas last year and in the January transfer window they made a complete mess of additions and effectively constructively dismissed a club legend and a number of other members of staff because they could and not because they needed to. Fast forward 12 months and we are nearly back where we were.
Expectations on the Danes being amazing straight off, due to the money spent, spread across the fanbase. As fans we were also expecting other players to hit the ground running. None of the permanent signings really did that. There was no communication from the OG to state that these players were being bought for the following season or that they may need a significant amount of time to settle in. Therefore, rightly so the OG were questioned on what they were doing ripping up the current squad to replace with those clearly not ready. It was a massive own goal when it came to our chances of promotion.
Summer signings - a little better and a bit more information but clearly the Head Coach was out of his depth. Some panic loan day signings. Not much had changed from January and by the end of the window, none of the players signed permanently looked like they were really adding much. The data model clearly had a tweak from January though. Was it the coaching team or the players.
January - now we have a proper head coach, who knows what he is doing. Clearly aligned with the OG we have too many players and that some of the signings needed off loading to trim the squad. I suspect the data model again had another tweak.
Overall, there are some shoots now coming through but interestingly the marquee signings seem to have been more of a flop - Berry, Westergaard, Taylor, Van Sas, Quitirna than those who didn’t appear to command a large fee and fuss - Boyd-Munce, Casey, Allen.
It is clear they were out of their depth last January and to a degree in the Summer. I think Duff has helped them to level set and they appear to be learning from their mistakes. Clearly they seem to know from the off what they were doing with Academies but not the First Team.
I want us to be successful, and everyone should get a chance to learn and grow in their jobs. However, it will never sit easy with me how they treated the previous staff and squad assembled by the previous owners. I’ll acknowledge what they’ve done but they’ve got a long way to go to earn my respect on how they treat people.
That does seem an absolutely crazy one in retrospect.
We paid a fee, and then got 3 appearances out of him, sending him straight back on loan, and I’d be highly surprised if Chesterfield are paying all of his wages.
Whisper it quietly but the team is still inferior to the one before he started meddling and spending millions.
It’s good that a decent manager is finally getting a tune out of some of them, but I think your excitement about Dan Rice relates more to our recovery from the depths of despair than anything else. Or that you’re just looking to be his best friend?
lol you really do hate Rice!! give the man some credit with the appointment of Duff and this Windows transfers
The grudge master general. It’s a very extreme position for sure ![]()
He also deserves some credit for , Taylor Allen ,CBM,Anders,Henderson,Casey,Junior as well as Duff and Morley ( who he managed to bring in despite interest from Mr Oxford).
