Match Day Thread: Northampton Town, 20th Sept 2025

I’d genuinely forgotten what it was like to watch a Wycombe team where players have the freedom to get the ball and run forwards.

That’s the George Abbott I thought we were getting.

COME ON!

To those that are there, what’s Duffs pitchside manner. Hot topic was Dodds’ lack of interest and on screen Duff looks more engaged but can’t see him for long periods.

watching it on tv northampton commentary moaning about the long grass ..:. just shows what a decent manager can do , we should be 3/4 up

My in laws and Wife are all Stoke fans. This all reminds me of them appointing Pelach a well regarded coach as his first job, it didn’t work, so they got rid and brought in Robins, an experienced manager.

Also, I watched them against Qpr, and Qpr had a laptop to watch things in the dugout. Didn’t people criticise our bench for thst?

Absolute joy to be at Adams Park today, rinsing away the misery of Doddsball. Atmosphere is great.

Anyone who doesn’t understand what Luke Leahy brings as a player and leader is an utter numpty.

Somewhat bittersweet, really.

Just think what might have been if someone vaguely competent had been appointed in February.

Where’s @bluntphil with a ‘Bullseye’ gif when you need him?

“Look at what you could have won”

Nevertheless, thrilled that action has finally been taken and here’s to the recovery continuing in force. Also thrilled for the young players who will be developing in a proper system now.

I haven’t see anyone criticizing any use of laptop or iPads. What people were bemused about was that under Dodds we had a dugout full of people who were seemingly all watching them the entire time rather than focusing on the real world.

To be fair, if I had a choice of watching doddsball or Netflix for 90 minutes I’d pick Netflix on the iPad as well.

17 shots 55% possession. Not bad.

The big difference was Dodds had half a season as Sunderland interim manager that should have warned us his teams score no goals, lose a lot and play football that alienates the fans.

Good coach or not it was clear at the end of last season he couldn’t cut it. Just glad the change has been made or we could easily have been bottom tonight.

Really sad I wasn’t there today, you can feel the vastly improved atmosphere on and off the pitch through the screen.

Admittedly I only saw the second half, but so many players today looked great who were so sub-par under Dodds - Fred, Taylor, Leahy, Abbott, Harvie et al.

Damning evidence that Dodds was utterly inept at not just broader team tactics, but also individual man-management of senior players.

Credit to the OG for bringing in Duff - early days but he looks like the real deal.

I don’t care if Michael Duff dances all over the pitch in his post match interview after today which has brought back my love of football after Dodds destroyed it.

he played well , as per my comment but please get your nose out of his backside…I call it as I see it …very good today but been.poor for most of the season.

Up the OG. Up the Duff. COYB.

Perhaps I expect too much but that totally wasted high, wide and ugly free kick by Luke Leahy towards the end of the second half with about seven Wycombe players lined up in the six yard box had me really seething.

Great game though and the icing on the cake on this, my birthday weekend.

Everyone’s been poor for most of the season. And it’s pretty clear what’s behind that.

I’d expect him to kick on along with other players being given more freedom in a clear, effective structure.
