Match Day Thread: Peterborough 24th Jan 26

#specsavers

18/19, 19/20 or 20/21?

Quite frankly both are poor and should not be our centre forward if we have any ambition.

Glad to hear Duff’s interview. Unlike others I was happy with today’s performance (and felt like I was going mad arguing with friends that it was a good performance). We win that 8 times out of 10.

Some random comments:

Bradley Fink - I think people need to realise that he’s not a British type No.9. He’s not going to battle to win balls in the air from long balls. That’s not his game. But look at the chances we are creating when he’s playing. He’s a goal scorer but so out of form. He’s surely going to go on a run when the goal comes.

Cauley Woodrow - been unsure what he brings to the side for weeks. He doesn’t create chances or score goals. Today he got presented with a sitter by a Peterborough mistake and missed it. I don’t think Woodrow is going to help us go to the next level. He’s done OK for us but I don’t think it makes much sense keeping him and we should consider ending his loan.

Fred - We desperately missed him today.

Luke Leahy - with midfielders fit and possibly Morley coming, how do you get him in the team? He’s a wonderful experienced player but he might not be the certain starter he has been moving forward. I don’t think he had a good game today.

WiFi and phone reception not working today. Not good given the investment in this.

Today was very annoying. Peterborough weren’t better than us just had 2 easy counter attacks, that’s it. Wycombe had the chances to score and put the game to bed but the complete lack of quality was the reason that nothing was converted. Wycombe were overall the better team just didn’t have the cutting edge.

Fink tries very hard but just hasn’t got it. His timing, judgment and control sometimes were way off. He got a lot of grief from a lot of his own team I noticed. He is up there at the moment with the holligans and Harris’s that I can think of. McClure is ahead of him in terms of quality. We can’t buy a goal at the moment. Maybe will come good but do wycombe have the time to develop him in the hope he does.

The backwards sideways long is pointless today. Lack of creativity through midfield, lack of movement through midfield. At times anders and Casey looked the most creative. Harris looked decent and was everywhere, unlucky to have one kicked off the line.

Woodrow wasn’t too bad I didn’t think and did battle but when you’re with Fink what do you do?

Allowing Peterborough to set up defensively and recover because we want to fanny around too much is never going to workout. The second came because Anders tried to actually run at their defence which was more than others, same as Casey having to win the ball in midfield and I also thought that if Norris came and charged at the second cross, he might’ve had a chance to save it. He had f all else to do all day.

Don’t get me started on junior, I’m not a fan and today proved why. The recruitment issues showed today.

Hopefully just a blip but when my 5 year old falls asleep it’s not a good look. Block T was pointless and atmosphere was struggling outside of the terrace. Although I did like the semi tifo for Anders, nice touch.

Apologies for the long thread and I’ll probably get pelters but it was a very frustrating watch today!

Just got back from the game and I am disappointed for 2 reasons:

  1. Apart from the fast starts in both halves, we seemed to just lose our way in the middle of each half. Both goals were avoidable, first one, we didn’t clear our lines & the second, we were hit on the counter after Anders went on a run & noone covered for him. Our squad is starting to look very thin with the outgoings we have made. The bench didn’t look to offer anything new or different and several players are playing when they shouldn’t. Grimmer was wincing in pain after several normal defender like challenges, Leahy looked a shell of his normal self, looked like he was shielding himself from more pain & Junior’s thigh & knee was completely bandaged up.

  2. I think games & community days like this seem to do us more damage than good. I can’t remember a ā€œfamily dayā€ or ā€œQuid a kidā€ game where we have put in a performance to encourage children & wycombe-town folk to return. We had over 7,000 there today, I’m not sure any newbies will return.

Surprise surprise, without Fred we aren’t much of a threat.

On today’s evidence we need to find some more Freds or at least a striker who knows where the goal is. Assuming the Morley thing happens this week it would be reassuring to see a new forward of proven calibre as well.

we are not getting Morley , why would we not have tied this up already? Stockwell evidently nor doing a goord job and needs to be moved on

Did anyone else notice that Cam Stones played without any shinpads on today? His socks were around his ankles, and there was no sign of him wearing shinpads.

Is he a goal scorer though? Swiss kid international stuff aside he seems to have a league goal history of 11 goals a few months off turning 23.

Nothing suggests he’s going to turn into Sean Devine overnight.

Carry on dreaming.

But we knew this already. Its seems he has a lot of promise but he was never going to be a 20 goal a season striker

The boy Midlander who is one of the Crown Jewels of the gasroom suggested he’ll really turn it on when he gets one goal though.

I’m confident from what I’ve seen of him that he will be.

It was aimed at the eyes for Fink

if you think woodrow is a good football you have to seriously start following another sport ..Woodrow is the most ineffective forward I have seen since Jakubiak

Not sure too many would be put off by the performance today would they? Frustrated by the scoreline and the finishing on display, but it really wasn’t a bad performance. Had we equalised, which we really should’ve done early in the 2nd half, there’s every chance we’d have gone on to win.

But as Duff and countless other managers are fond of saying, if you don’t score when you’re on top, you won’t win many games. Certainly a more entertaining match than at Northampton last week, although I’m sure we’d have all preffered a scrappy win as per last week.

Agreed up to a point, but his ineffectiveness is trumped by Fink.

But ā€œineffectiveā€ is not a word you’d describe Fink as surely. Poor (and unlucky) in front of goal (so far) maybe but not ineffective.

He’s hardly effective. He had almost zero effect on the game.
