Match Day Thread: Plymouth (H) 22nd Aug 2026

Blackpool have won at Stockport which puts a slightly different shade on last week’s result. For us and Plymouth.

Very glad not to lose today, but there’s a lot of work to do.

Still two points off the playoffs

There’s a spine… Parker my god he is fast. Could have and should have driven so much more at their left back… he had them for toast if he did it more… lets hope Thomas is okay. Play like that every week Taylor and Casey/Anders will be on the bench every week

Fink on the bench for Dundee.

Can he have his cake and eat it or something?

Duff has tried that pacy front 3 before and it never works.

More control in the middle really helped in the 2nd half. Plymouth offered little, but we really lacked a striker. Tezgel is a nippy poacher, not currently the strong 9 we need.

Cook was brilliant, as was Taylor. Harvie’s final ball weak, and Silko started well but faded.

Mixed emotions. But we deserved at least a point.

Best news of this season so far - all hail Shev !

I warched second half, we need to be a team playing on the front foot, im not sure thats what the manager likes. How to get both Morley and Henderson in the middle is the question.

Again, not sure CF was an issue.

I’m still in the minority that would swap both CHs. I dont think they suit the best style.

We obviously now need a CF and could do another winger.

Conor Hazard seems to be our best keeper since David Stockdale, I like his fast distribution and he seems confident and communicative.

I don’t really love the Cook-Taylor partnership even though they did well today. It just seems to limit the way we play, while Hagelskajer-Casey opens the match up much more and gives us a chance of creating more.

Harvie needs to settle and Grimmer needs some time out to gain full fitness. He’ll be needed over winter but now is not his time.

I didn’t rate Mullins last season, I still don’t rate him now. He’s a luxury player we can’t really afford at the moment. I’d far prefer to have a midfield three of Morley plus two from Henderson, Scowen and Boyd-Munce. Woodrow needs to play each week to link the play.

Thomas, Tezgal, Junior… all fine in small measures, i.e. off the bench. We need a new starting left forward and a new centre forward.

I wondered over the summer if Fred had signed up again after being told he’d be used as a striker. I don’t hate the idea but it really didn’t work today.

Duff… I really don’t see why people think he’s a decent head coach. I really don’t. We can and should be able to do much better than him. Tom Cleverly, Frank Lampard, Jack Wilshire - there’s a whole generation of clever coaches coming through (who have played the game, unlike Dodds). We had one in Bloomfield. We could get another (or get Bloomfield back…)

He’s obviously a decent head coach or he wouldn’t be making a living doing it. I think he got an extended honeymoon period because he wasn’t Dodds, and, speaking personally, because he interviews well. But He certainly seems unwilling or unable to set up a team that plays creative and brave football. I’m not sure i’d put much money on him being here in 12 months.

Goals galore! My arse.

Agree with all of this except the criticism of Duff. He’s old school but he’s a proven winner at this level.

If you didn’t think we were on the front foot in the second half, thank your lucky stars that you didn’t see the first half. It was very much like the Bradford game last season when an equally weak referee was allowing all sorts of mischief go unpunished and they tore into us physically in the second half and came back to win 2-1.

We did a Bradford in the second half today.

Sorry, probably badly explained. We were on the front foot second half, that the best way gor these players to play. But, the manager seems hesitant to start that way.

I don’t remember him having that enormous throw when he played for us.

And those superb Anders style diagonal balls to Silko.

There was one suicidal pass from Harvie late in the game when he’d totally switched off and must have thought we were playing in the salmon kit.

Cook I agree with. You’re gonna be hard pressed to justify why Taylor doesn’t start. Only mistake was one bad pass just before injury time.

Taylor Hagesljaer for me.

Are you sure that wasn’t the Harvie pass I just mentioned?

Can’t get my head around the team selection today. Duff’s not an idiot, so I assume there’s a lot of stuff that we don’t know about. Knocks. Personal life issues.

Connor Taylor selection was vindicated. I think he was just about MOTM for me.

The choice of front three was bewildering. It could be argued that the choice of starting team cost us two points. We only really looked on top from the 55th minute sub onwards.
