Swindon Town were founded in 1993, a breakaway of players from Swindon Spitfires, and worked their way up the pyramid into the National D1 South West in 2018, stayed there and finished top last season. Two points clear of Moneyfields, only six points dropped, they were promoted to the Southern Premier. In the FA Cup they made it all the way to the 4th Round (last 32) when they lost 10-0 at Charlton Athletic. They topped their League Cup Group with three wins out of three and reached the League Cup Quarter-Finals.

Top scorer last season was Annie Colston with 29 from 22 league matches, 51 from 35 in all competitions. She was voted joint National D1 South West Player of the Season, shared with Mimi Hodges. At Swindon since 2021, Colston has scored a remarkable 108 in 107 league matches, 153 in 144 in all matches. She has scored two goals so far this season, Tori St Clair is top scorer with 3.

This season in the league, Swindon won their opener against Plymouth Argyle (4-2) but lost to Portsmouth (4-0), Real Bedford (2-1), Fulham (2-1) and, last Sunday, Hashtag United (4-2). They are currently 10th in the table. In our League Cup group, they won 5-2 at Maidenhead United and lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea U21.

They became fully integrated with the main Swindon Town club in 2022, when they started playing some matches at the County Ground. Last season all league games were played there, some cup games are played at Swindon Supermarine, like today’s, which has a grass pitch. Attendances at their two league games this season, at the County Ground, were 363 (Plymouth) and Fulham (202). The League Cup match against Chelsea attracted 163. Richard Wood has been Manager since September 2023, apart from a few weeks away in 2024.

To finish third in the group, and go through to the Plate knock-outs, the Chairgirls would need to win today and make up nine goals on Maidenhead, who host Chelsea U21 today.

2’, Hodges shot cleared off the line following an indirect free kick for a back pass. Quickly followed by a great save by Courlander who injured herself. She’s good to continue.

25 mins, no goals, play mostly in our half but we are defending well. Only one shot on target for them.

27’, Swindon take lead with a cross come shot out wide, looping into far corner, by Waylen. Sorry if I cursed that!

30’ 2-0, loose back pass lept on and guided home by Cook.

33’ Makowska shot flashes past the post.

34’, have we scored? Shot hits bar and in ensuring scramble Hodges pokes home. Keeper badly injured. Is it a foul or goal?

It’s a goal. ST 2-1 WW.

Yup, looks to be a goal. The scoreboard is very delayed as per usual but its 2-1.

40’ great save by Courlander, one one one.

41’ Hodges breaks through but shot well saved.

HT ST 2-1 WW. Swindon have had most of the play, they are looking dangerous down the left wing, but last 15 we really came into it. Considering they are tier 3, we are doing well, managing to get some passing movements together.

47’, nearly 3-1 but, after scrambl with Ax, shot is wide and short. Think I heard on PA that goal machine Colston is on.

49’ goal to Wycombe!

Is Mimi playing up front? I missed the first half.
