The current incarnation of the Bristol Rovers Women was founded in 2019, 14 years after the original name disappeared. Starting at Gloucestershire county level, they quickly moved upwards and won promotion to the National League D1 SW in 2024, and have finished fourth in their two seasons. They became fully integrated with the men’s club in 2024 and started playing matches at the Memorial Ground.
Last season they reached the FA Cup 2nd Round, losing 3-1 at home to Fulham at the Mem. Two wins in the League Cup group stage took them into the Plate 1st Round, when they lost 3-1 at home to Fulham. Megan Jarvis was top scorer in the league, 12 from 12, before moving to Bridgwater United, where she also scored 12 from 12 and was top scorer there as well.
This season in the league, they have beaten MAP (3-1) away and have lost to Bridgwater (0-3) and Maidenhead (0-2 ), both at home and as many as they lost at home last season. In the league cup, they have one win (Keynsham 4-2 at home) , and one defeat (Exeter City 3-4 away). Yesterday, Rovers announced the signing of striker Libby Davies from Swindon Town, where she scored 38 goals in 54 matches over the past two seasons. Whether she has registered in time for today’s match remains to be seen.
This season the Pirates have played at the Memorial Ground and at Oaklands Park, Almondsbury, home of the Gloucestershire FA. They sometimes play at Yate Town. Nathan Hallett-Young has been their manager since the start in 2019.
