Matt Bloomfield Managerial Megathread

It’s hardly the Pope moving to devil worship, or Figo moving from Barcelona to Real Madrid.

It’s a hard working humble fella trying to keep his career going or face a very real risk of Curbishlying off the scene and being forgotten.

You must be one of only a tiny handful of gasroomers who have heard of a couple of those names let alone how to rank them.

But this is why you’re the to to guy for info.

And I’m still taking your excitement at Fink signing that he has a chance.

Dare say when you’re out of a job and have no guarantee another one is coming, that the name itself is irrelevant

It’s what he’s agreed with their board that matters.

When you’re out of a job, you’ll take anything especially if the job is in the Championship.

Hope Blooms does well but let’s have it right, the primary reason he he spent as long as he did at Wycombe was because he was limited as a footballer. I don’t think that’s an unfair observation.

It’s completely unfair

So why do the absolute shtload of other “limited” footballers that we’ve had through the doors not stay as long?

Just signed Donlen or Donley from spurs aswell. More attacking but still a midfielder.

Christ, time to avoid this place for a few days. ‘Limited’ footballers drift down into obscurity, they don’t last 20 years across three divisions simply because a few people like them hanging around the place. Such a lazy, pack mentality statement.

Be careful there you’re introducing the real world into the argument

Average player. Good professional. Better opportunity comes along and he would have been gone (which is of course completely understandable).

Yep in fairness I try and stay out of real world stuff!

Depends how you define better opportunity.

If you truly believe he didn’t have any other offers available, some for more money in his huge length of Time here I don’t know what to tell you.

The annoying thing with a few comments on here is I’m not even particularly that much of a fan of Bloomfield as a player, but recognised he always put a solid shift in. But its just not right to talk down on someone who gave such service.

I just can’t imagine calling myself a Wycombe fan if I didn’t have a shred of respect for someone who played here for 19 years, who only retired as a player because of multiple concussions

A fantastic servant for Wycombe Wanderers and should have took us to the Championship but for interference from above.

I wish him well at Oxford.

Bloomfield out

Yep he was robbed of the chance to manage us there so good on him for getting not one, but two opportunities there.

An almost identical scenario to Luton, just with less money. Going to be a really tough job to say the least.

The service Blooms gave to Wycombe isn’t being questioned. There is however context around it. He was a bottom end league 1 player and it’s plausible it was the best conditions he was going to get.

Matt Bloomfield played the majority of his career in league 2. Not sure anyone thinks he was some lower league Messi. But he was more than good enough to be a consistent performer in league one and two over his career, and be a very important player.

Not sure hes worth overpaying his ability but its also not worth underlying it.
